Getting buzzed and wasted is two different things. Now if he was drinking a half of bottle of hard liquor everyday then yeah, he would have a problem.

But getting buzzed once or twice a week, sounds like the average guy. I know guys who drink everytime there is a game on tv.

Just like I know women who drink wine everytime they watch True Blood and The Bachelorette.

I don't even want to get drunk. I have to get up the next day..feel sick..maybe the head hurts...no way. But several times a week I have a little night cap to relax me some and enjoy the night with my wife. Getting drunk is just unfavorable to me.

I don't know why I'm drawn to your threads ODogg. Maybe I'm the only one being honest here but it's sort of like when people slow up to see a car accident (which is odd, b/c I hate people that do that). Sometime I feel like I'm a moth to a flame... heh.

I'm actually curious to find out how she will deal with you and the release of NCAA. I know (because again, you like to make it very public) that you like to drink heavily and play NCAA Football.

How are you going to handle when she wants to see the Housewives of New Jersey/New York/Pittsburgh/Idaho?

It's all part of growing up. I know that sounds a little odd given your age but everyone leads a different path. Perhaps this will be a way for you to step back and determine if you can make the sacrifices necessary in a relationship and not be bitter at her for being the cause.

Also, you have to know if she is willing to make the same sacrifices - it can't just be you. Two selfish people in a relationship usually doesn't work out too well.

Here's what I did to make sure I get to play PS3. The 37" - she does whatever she wants. I have the PS3 and a 22" in the living room as well and I sit next to her on the couch. If the show/movie is good I'll pause it and pay attention. I know I did when a couple of house skanks started fighting in Jersey, lol. I gotta say two of the Jersey chicks are the only ones on all the RHW shows w/ class.

Anyway, that's how we solved that.

If you're drinking one night a week, you're fine.

Most people drink one night a week and get hammered and don't consider themselves alcoholics. Some do it more often than that and I don't think a lot of people would consider them alcoholics.

Have you asked her why she doesn't like you to drink? Is it a preference thing, does she not like how you behave buzzed, is it merely because she just wants to say something?

I've asked her about it and she doesn't really have an answer for why she doesn't like it. I don't get argumentative when I drink. I don't get abusive when I drink. I don't drink and drive or anything like that. In fact I'm hardcore about that, if I go out (I usually drink at home in front of my big screen) then I always call a cab. I really think it's just because she doesn't drink and just worries I drink too much. The thing is, she gets drunk on 3 drinks and for me, I'm a big guy, I'm irish and I have a high tolerance, so I drink much more than 3 drinks..so maybe she thinks that I'm damaging my health or something.

To be honest though, when I press her on it she has no answer as to why.

As for the drinking thing, I feel that if you can handle all your responsibilities and do not miss anything because you were drunk/hungover, then drinking a few nights a week is fine.

I've always subscribed to that theory myself. I've never missed work, gotten a DUI, beat anyone up, had any relationships (perhaps other than this one) affected by my drinking and just in general never considered it a problem. I consider it an indulgence. I enjoy it because it's an altered state of conscious and I see things differently.

A glass of wine or a beer with dinner and I can agree with that.

But if someone is drinking to get a drunk on a regular basis, that could be a problem. It certainly can put a strain on a relationship.

How would you feel if you're married with kids and your wife likes to get drunk once or twice a week? Is that OK?

I hear you on that, I don't disagree..honestly I have wondered if this is an issue myself in the past simply because my dad and my grandad were both raging alcoholics. I suppose I have the capacity to be one as well. But I really don't think I ever would fall into that because I don't enjoy it that much and I really just enjoy it as an occasional thing. I have considered that when I have a child, if I am ever that fortunate, that I would quit entirely. Really I go back and forth on it. I don't think I abuse alcohol, nor am I an alcoholic but yes I do drink and get buzzed (drunk) and consider that my right as an adult to do so.

Completely. If she got drunk after the kids were asleep and did not drive and was able to continue her responsibilities the next morning like it didnt happen (i.e. didnt miss work or neglect the kid) then I am completely fine with it.

Btw, yes, it could be a problem with some people, but I don't see getting drunk once a week as a problem. Also, with women, my thing has always been that if I had a habit before we got together, and you knew about it (smoking), and didnt say anything before we got together, you do not have much standing to try to get me to quit 6 months down the road.

I completely agree, if my wife wanted to get drunk and could do so once a week without putting our kids in danger and just enjoying herself I would be ok with it.

When I posted my thread about 8 or 9 months ago in regards to asking the OS community about my g/f objecting to my drinking I said the same argument. In fact I told my g/f that, if you wanted someone who never drank then you can go pursue that. I'm not that. I told her that to her face and she swore up and down that was not what she wanted. So I told her if she wanted to stay with me she'd have to accept the fact I liked to drink about once a week and that I was not a tee-totaller. I really don't see why you'd stay with someone if that was such a turn-off. She has known right up front what she's getting with me.

In fact I told her back then to break up if the alcohol was an issue for her because I was not ever going to be a "straight arrow" and if that's what she was looking for she should have said that in her dating profile.

that's a good observation, in fact it's spot on, because earlier on I brought that up and she confirmed that's what she though. she said she though i drank because she wasn't "hot enough" and when I drank she became hotter. I told her that was not true at all and I think that was 80% of our issue with alcohol because she has chilled out a LOT since then.
