Re: Where Were You on September 11th 2001?
I was working in my office in the Empire State Building....after the second tower was hit I got the F$#@ out of it, as it soon again became the tallest building in Manhattan.
Business often took my down to Towers but I would never make early appointments because it was a PITA to get in an out of those buildings in the morning, especially having to secure a visitors pass...
Watched the 1st tower fall from 32nd and Broadway, had a clear view of the towers as the wind was blowing the smoke south, there was a Best Buy with TVs on in the frontage area I remember looking back and forth from live images on tv an south on Broadway.
After the 1st tower fell, I made my way to the subway and tried to head out of town and get home. Subway was shortly shutdown, bridges and tunnels all closed except to foot traffic. Ended up taking a gypsy cab with strangers as close to Bridge as we could get and walked home in disbelief. not knowing the second tower fell until I reached home.
Cell Phones didn't work, all signals busy was another thing I recall. Couldn't get through to anyone...
I think of those lost and that day, every day there is a perfect blue sky on a warm summer/fall day in NYC...senseless loss over what boils down to extremist religious beliefs.Last edited by Gleebo; 09-11-2016, 10:00 PM.Comment

I remember before the first plane hit being excited because the news so far that morning was Michael Jordan coming back to the NBA“Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.”

I'll never forget the images of people jumping out the Windows of the towers. Totally surreal and tragic.Comment

I used to post on a message board in the early 2000's (before OS) called FanHome. It has changed its name over the years, and I don't know if it exists anymore. There was someone on the message board though who was username trane, and made a post just moments before the first tower was hit. He was in one of the several floors that was hit, and killed him. Here is a picture of his last post:

Re: Where Were You on September 11th 2001?
Wow.. that literally must have been seconds before it happened. So tragic.
I remember being at school, I was only about 7-8 years old at the time. I remember it vaguely, but I do remember just everything coming to a halt. Even thousands of miles across the atlantic, everyone just stopped. As kids there is no way we could comprehend or even understand what happened. We were sent home early.
Despite the fact I wasn't even in the same country, what happened was such a huge shock that now I look back on it, there is no way anyone could have possibly just continued going about their day as normal. It just wouldn't seem right, I guess.
I plan on travelling to the states next year with New York being on the list. I look forward to visiting the memorial.Comment

To kind of repeat what a fireman said, I just can't believe how bad it had to be up there that jumping was the better option.

I was sleeping with no clue what was going on. I work nights so I would sleep during the day. My mom came home from work and woke me up and told me to turn on the news. I couldn't believe what had happened. Still doesn't feel like it's been 15 years.MLB: Chicago Cubs

I'm not one to bump threads but I think this one is an exception to any rule I may have.
I made sure to watch a 9/11 documentary when I got home from work. The only one still on when I got a chance was Hotel Ground Zero. I've seen it a couple times but I watched it anyway. It's my way of continuing to remember all of the sacrifices made on that day and in the aftermath of the event.

Well I saw the History Channel had a new 9/11 doc today with 9/11: Escape from the Towers.
Its these type of 9/11 docs that interest me the most. The ones that deal with the human nature element of it more than anything else. It was powerful stuff and heavy for a lack of a better word.
The nerves that I get watching is unreal. I keep thinking the survivors telling their stories are actors portraying them and that they won’t survive it this time.
I would suggest if anyone has the time to take the 2 hours and watch it."Ma'am I don't make the rules up. I just think them up and write em down". - Cartman

Re: Where Were You on September 11th 2001?
I was thinking at school today as I was teaching.. none of the kids I taught today were alive when this happened.
It's incredibly sad to see where we are as a society and how it seems like it takes tragedies like this and others that our country has experienced to bring people together... only for them to be torn apart a short time later.Comment

I think the human nature that 9/11 shows is something that is worth fighting for through any turmoil that arises."Ma'am I don't make the rules up. I just think them up and write em down". - Cartman
