Re: Most annoying words, terms, phrases

YouTube videos where they start off with: "Yo wutup issyaboiiii [insert channel name here]." I acknowledge that could be some OS users as well.

This next one is a two-parter, the first part being the annoying phrase and the second part being a gear-grinder. "SMASH that like button!" First of all, stop trying to be hip; the phrase sucks.

The gear-grinder aspect of this is if the person on a YouTube video asks me to 'like' or subscribe before revealing any info, I will most assuredly 'dislike' their video. Sure, they get my view (and I may love the material no less), but I won't appease pleaders. I know how to 'like' something on my own, thank you very much. I know what they need and what they are going for, I understand. Ask at the end I guess, I don't know since I don't ever do that (and perhaps as a result I don't have a popular channel, but I don't aim for that anyway or else I would post daily, tag my videos, and make clickbait titles and thumbnails). If at the beginning you want to refer to the description or comment sections, great! But if you start off with...

"Yo wutup YouTube issyaboiii HawtSoss, before I go any further make sure you SMASH that like button, subscribe and ring that bell to get more videos like this."

      ... I'm likely outta there.

Others may like that stuff, and that's great. I like how some people on YouTube really feel like they're speaking to their audience, but here I'm not getting that connection. I'm getting wannabe gangster combined with a hip permutation of acting desperate.

The generic YouTube intro sounding like a wannabe gangster is the wildest thing I’ve read on this site since Blake Snell sounds like a thug.

The way Blzer described them - feel like he knows what he's about to get into from the thumbnail image.

Now I'm curious what the hell he is watching.

Haha, I just meant a lot of popular Facebook channels have been coached up. Do what you gotta do to get your views.

For example, haven't you noticed a lot of videos that are 5:04, 10:03, or 20:11 in length? The algorithm that recommends videos to others hunts for these time benchmarks. If you have a video that's 9:59 instead of 10:00, everything changes. They make sure their videos are "long enough" to hit these marks.

A lot of thumbnails are clickbait, that's all. They attract your eye those ones with red circles pointing to something seemingly conspicuous but ultimately irrelevant to the video, or things that aren't in the video at all. Like, what the bloody hell is this?

I did a quick scan through the video. That portion never appears once. So why did they choose it? Because it's flashy and the arrow/circle can stick out by contrast. But again, that's textbook clickbait right there.

I also just saw this thumbnail for somebody revealing the PS5 controller in their video:

What does this thumbnail say to an audience? That he can give hands on impressions. Yes, everyone is allowed to be gullible enough to be believe that he has it. In his eyes, the absolute worst thing that can happen is somebody clicks the video just to be disappointed that he, of course, doesn't actually have the controller. But this is classic clickbait.

More of a gear-grinder anyway, and yes I could've chosen some of my previous words better.

All good points, and all good examples of the old chestnut that "every system is perfectly designed to get the results that it gets".

Sounds so stupid (and it kind of is), but the more you think about it, the more insightful it really is....

                      Dude!

I hate that word! I hate when I hear someone call someone else dude and I hate it more when someone calls me dude. It's like finger nails on a chalk board for me. Lucky for me it seems to be going away and I don't hear it as much anymore.

I've had a few of my HS students call me "Bruh" when they're having a fit about something. All I have to say is: "Excuse me?" They lighten up a little afterward.

On that note, I love when employees (of some service or sales store) call me "Boss." Whether it be in retail, fast food, mechanics, or what have you.

back in the day when I used to have a job, I had a boss who repeatedly called me "boss" and it drove me nuts

the guy in charge called me boss, and did it condescendingly like a joke
