If I put down a trap, it's more than likely going to blow over due to the wind.

Went to the store and grabbed some repellent spray. Talked to her about it and basically decided that the repellent wouldn't be effective because I'd repeatedly have to spray the area. And it would drive away (not kill) birds and this mouse (which BTW I have not seen...she has).

So I put the repellent back on the shelf and grabbed the poison.

I'm debating about putting it down tomorrow. I think it comes with a trap but you put the poison bars inside the trap. In my mind it'll be most effective if I put those bars directly on the ground and/or wall outside.

But my conscious is driving me crazy if I end up killing multiple birds or cats.

FWIW..I'm also not naive to know that if there is one mouse then there probably a family of them somewhere else in the vicinity.

I'm really trying not to kill a bird or cat but I have no way around this...I think.
I bought the poison with baiting stations for a vole problem. I would highly recommend the baiting stations. I check and re-fill them once a month or so and the vole population has decreased significantly.

Thanks man. We are going to down size and moving into an apartment for a couple years. I'm able to get a discount through my job so we plan on banking as much money as possible over the next couple years and have a good chunk to put down on a home we build or renovate when we chose the next house. We want it to be that "forever" house.

Finally got our light fixed and the cactus removed (they were only required to trim it, but for 25 bucks they took it all! well worth it).

Next up I need to have someone look at our irrigation pipe that has a big leak somewhere in the back yard box with all the switches. If i can get that handled we might have a nice yard again lol

Have you guys ever thought of putting a urinal in your bathroom? I'm shopping for toilets and sinks and my gf brought it up. I'm not sure i'm gonna do it this time but I always wanted one in my bathroom.

I would go with a bidet over a urinal.

If I had a big enough of a house to where I had my own wing, I'd have one in one of the bathrooms. Can't imagine doing that in a 2 BA house, though.

It would be convenient, that's for sure.

A lot Asia use a bidet sprayer which is basically a kitchen sink sprayer next to a toilet. I thought it was weird at first but it's absolutely necessary now. It doesn't take space either.

Wanted to extend the back patio, so I hired a contractor to come out and lay down some concrete. After it had dried, the surface is pretty rough and almost too uncomfortable to walk on with bare feet. Is this normal? He just finished Friday and will be out tomorrow to get the rest of their equipment. Just wondering if I am expecting too much with a smooth finish.

Did he not smooth the cement when he did it?

I don't think I've ever been on any finished cement that I could not walk on in my bare feet - much less a patio.

We are getting estimates for a deck (12x16). A contractor gave us one for ~$3800 which includes materials, labor, and installing an outdoor light.

Does this seem reasonable to you guys? It does to me, but I also have no experience with this stuff.

Concrete isn't smooth at all. Even in my shoes I can feel how rough it is. Many spots there are several raised jagged spots. Was just curious before I brought it up with the contractor.

Not sure about your question, I have never had to put in a deck, so I am clueless as to the cost. I do know lumber is pretty pricey right now

We are looking to extend our deck (14'×15' addition) and just for the deck part (not the grass removal in the area it will cover, irrigation head reroute) we were being quoted anywhere from $4200 to $5250. So I'd say for the deck and light $3800 is good.

My brother in law and I are going to do ours, he's done a few decks including my parents and I'm pretty handy so I think we can do it for far less. The problem is finding time both of us are available to work on it.
