As a fan of teams that frequently do both...ugh...idk...getting the #1 pick hurts a lot less.

But making the championship game and losing means more.

Three years of 1st picks in the draft and you can already make it into the NBA playoffs.

About 5 years of picks in the NFL, look at the Lions. (But then look at the Rams.)

Usually it takes over 10 years to rebuild in MLB. Look at the Pirates, Reds, Rays, O's, Royals, Cardinals (87-2000), etc.
The Cardinals were 1 game away from the World Series in 1996..

I'm pretty sure they were also up 3-1 in the series.

It's much, much, much better to experience some success than none at all.

Trust me, as a Bills fan i'd rather see them go to 4 SBs and lose progressively worse each year instead of the crap we've gotten from them for a decade+.

As a Detroit Lions/Texas Rangers fan I'd say make the Championship. Even though it ****ing sucks to lose it twice in a row (can't imagine how Bills fans feel) it's better than the dreadful seasons I've had to watch in my favorite sport.

Both scenarios almost always guarantee you miss the playoffs. Finishing .500 as a fan you can enjoy winning some games. With last place you get the first round pick or the odds to receive it are heavily in your favor.
This is a question that depends on the scenario. I'd say .500 if the team is getting better at least or just needs a couple pieces. If they are on the decline, or just suffered through some injury riddled season, I can live with a bad season if it gets us a better player and I know the team will be back.

I always want my teams to be the best. While this year didn't end as well as last year for the Packers, I'd always take this year over the 4-12 season a few years back. Same with Clemson, despite the *** kicking WV gave them, seeing them in the Orange Bowl was far better than the Humanitarian Bowl days.

None taken. I mainly made it to make sure that the majority of OS was rational, unlike the majority of my friends and the few posters I've seen who would vote for last place.
