I just hope he buys food with it. You never know if they just buy booze and drugs. That's why I don't like to hand out cash. In the past if I see someone on the street I have bought them a sandwich and coffee and brought it to them.

Along time ago when I was in high school, on the day before Thanksgiving, I was going into a burger joint to get lunch and there was a homeless guy outside panhandling. I didn't give him money but instead ordered an extra burger and fries for him and gave it to him on the way back to my car. He looked in the bag and then threw the whole thing at me while yelling, "I didn't ask you for food, I want money!"

I never let that one bad experience ruin "giving" for me but I hardly ever give money and instead still give food. If they don't want the food then I figure they can at least be resourceful and trade it to another homeless that does have what they want.

Watching my children do the same exact things I did as a kid. For example, I have twin daughters and they were in their room playing with their Barbies. I remember it like yesterday playing with GI Joes the same exact way. They were playing 'shopping' while I normally played sports or 'My favorite GI Joe is in the jet and he's going to kill you all' (he was even named after me, lol) but the same enjoyment I had was beaming from them. All I could do was smile -- cheesy I know but it felt good to be 'Daddy'
