My "drop" numbers are so desperately low I even tend to count the one time I crossed over one of my 8th graders I used to coach.

Over time, I've found the most fertile situation for an ankle breaker comes when a defender is really trying to lock down. At this time, they seem much more susceptible to any sort of sudden movement. While all-out falls don't seem to occur too often, I have been able to induce the backwards waddle twice in the past two weeks, and that feels nearly as good. Unfortunately, I don't know how to finish the job (aka getting them to fall over altogether). I know the open look is what counts, so I don't worry too much about it, but the folklore behind getting someone to tumble (without stepping on their foot or something) is still pretty neat sometimes.

Tim Hardaway's defender at 2:39 is pretty much the most I've been able to elicit lately:

Last night I had a plodding 6'6'' fellow foul me from behind on a dunk attempt (in clean and honest fashion) and he said something to his teammate about how I wasn't going to be dunking as long as he was on the floor. Through some good luck and coincidental timing, I was able to make him dance with the backwards waddle/crab walk the next time down the floor. As I alluded to earlier, I tend to not be able to make people do that on demand, things just timed out well.

    Humblebrag, end.

I've crossed many guys over, but as far as making guys stumble or fall down...I would say, probably 7 or 8? and most have come in the past couple of years, since I've been coaching. Every so often, I have a player get a little full of themselves and claim they can steal the ball from me, so I'll jump into the scrimmage, take the point, and make them dance a little bit before stepping out.

outside of guys I've coached, I've probably made 2 or 3 guys stumble, and it's amazing every time. probably no better feeling in pick up ball.
