Re: OS Basketball Players Thread.
In terms of talking trash I never really did it. However If guys would mess with me or my teammates, I would throw them elbows on Rebounds, foul them hard, and try to mess them up in any way way possible both physically and mentally. I have broken other players noses in the past with a quick elbow to the face just because they said something to me or one of my teammates in the past. If you try and one up me or one of my boys and act all cocky lets just say the next time you go up for a layup I will hit you low and hit you hard. I hate Arrogance and I hate cockiness.I want to apologize for this post, I was out the entire day and night leading up to this and lets just say I had a few too many. I have never broken anyone's nose by throwing an elbow at them while playing basketball and while trash talk usually bothers me I just live with it for the most part. So once again I'm sorry I wasnt in the right state of mind at the time when I posted this.

5'8" 155 in my HS days but now 5'8" 175.
Played SG/SF
AGE: 19 been playing since I was pretty young.
I'm an okay shooter and hustle pretty well, but other than that I'm not that great. Didn't play much in HS. Played sparingly on Varsity and got quite a bit of JV time my Sr. year. I wear glasses, but refused to wear them when I played in HS and as a result my shooting suffered a bit. So basically, I'm like if half of Kyle Korver's shooting skills merged with all of Brian Scalabrine's (that's the hustle part) so I'm not that great, but I love the game and that's all that really matters (or so I have been told repeatedly.)MLB: Minnesota Twins

Re: OS Basketball Players Thread.
So jealous of all you guys getting back out on the court right now. It's been over a month since I've been able to play because my thumbs been so screwed up. Gonna get that and my pointer finger checked out when I go home for Easter. Hopefully I don't need another surgery, because they said if I do, it would be a thumb fusion, and I'm pretty sure that would basically make it impossible for me to really ever play basketball anymore because I won't really have much if any mobility in my thumb so I won't be able to hold the ball. At least that's what it sounds like based on what I've read about the surgery.NFL: Bills

Re: OS Basketball Players Thread.
Am I wrong here?
I used to play HS basketball (12 years ago!!! Where has time gone!?!?!) and I just recently started a city league team. Now...if I start a league team I'd like to get the team together at least once a week to install somewhat of a semblance of an offense (like a 4 out motion...no plays per se'...just some organization) and work on defensive rotations.
6 out of the 8 guys have never played organized ball and are somewhat resistant to organizing.
If I wanted to play pick up type ball...I'd go play pick up games (which I do twice a week). I want to have one night that actually resembles organized ball!Chicago Bears

I have a group of guys that I play pickup with and we've all played together for years. We are in a league in NYC that meets once a week on saturday and we have been getting killed. Why? Because we go out there and play like we do in the playground while less talented players and less skilled teams steamroll us.
Then we go out and play pickup games and we're all on our game. Every week we talk about getting together and organizing but it never happens. So you definitely have a right to want to get something going with the group.Go Yankees
Go Rangers
Go Giants

Nothing like playing ball with a real offense though, I miss it so much. Being able to execute an offense and make reads is a huge advantage that most organized players have over streetballers. Out-smarting opponents is the most satisfying way to defeat them IMO.
I will say that almost every league that I've played in the champion has run some sort of offense, even if it's a simple motion. You'd think everyone else would get the clue."You make your name in the regular season, and your fame in the postseason." - Clyde Frazier

Re: OS Basketball Players Thread.
This was being discussed at another forum I frequent but I thought I'd ask here as well: Have you guys legitimately ever crossed someone up insanely enough to drop them to the floor? I'm pretty sure I can count my instances on one hand and I can't remember the last time it occurred. My "drop" numbers are so desperately low I even tend to count the one time I crossed over one of my 8th graders I used to coach.
Over time, I've found the most fertile situation for an ankle breaker comes when a defender is really trying to lock down. At this time, they seem much more susceptible to any sort of sudden movement. While all-out falls don't seem to occur too often, I have been able to induce the backwards waddle twice in the past two weeks, and that feels nearly as good. Unfortunately, I don't know how to finish the job (aka getting them to fall over altogether). I know the open look is what counts, so I don't worry too much about it, but the folklore behind getting someone to tumble (without stepping on their foot or something) is still pretty neat sometimes.
Tim Hardaway's defender at 2:39 is pretty much the most I've been able to elicit lately:

Last night I had a plodding 6'6'' fellow foul me from behind on a dunk attempt (in clean and honest fashion) and he said something to his teammate about how I wasn't going to be dunking as long as he was on the floor. Through some good luck and coincidental timing, I was able to make him dance with the backwards waddle/crab walk the next time down the floor. As I alluded to earlier, I tend to not be able to make people do that on demand, things just timed out well.
