I say yes. The Mid-Atlantic and New England states are subregions within the North East.
When I think of the Mid-Atlantic, I think of Maryland, Washington D.C., southern New Jersey, Northern Virginia, Southeastern Pennsylvania, and the eastern panhandle of West Virginia.

But if we go by your definition of the Mid-Atlantic, then those states absolutely are in the Northeast. They are not New England (Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont), but they are certainly Northeastern.

Well that article even says that Virginia (and WV) are more often not included. The census defines mid-atlantic as NY, PA, NJ though personally I've always though of MD and DE as being the mid-atlantic as well. WV is kind of on a triple junction between mid atlantic, southeast, and midwest (moreso the first 2 than the latter).

Virginia is one of those states that can be thrown in with the Southeast or the Mid-Atlantic. Truthfully, the dividing line is somewhere in central VA, IMO, as Northern Virginia is certainly more Mid-Atlantic while Southern Virginia is much more rural and "Southern".

If you consider "Ohio Valley' to be a region or subregion, I often throw WV in there (at least the western half of the state, including Charleston Huntington, Parkersburg, etc.).

The first post was about NY, PA, NJ though.

South or West of Philly ends the Northeast (I guess the southern tip of NJ still counts). Whether you want to claim the rest of PA is as the Northeast is up for debate, personally I don't consider it. People I've met from Central/Western PA and the times I've spent there give it much more of a Midwestern vibe than NE.

No way DE, MD, etc are Northeastern states.

This is how I break it up.

                              Red: South
                              Maroon: Southwest
                              Blue: Northeast
                              Light Blue: West
                              Dark Blue: North
                              Black: Midwest
                              Yellow: Mid-Atlantic
                              Light Green: Northwest
