Totally agree with ehh, fedoras are hard to pull off. You pretty much have to be a prohibition-era gangster or one cool mother****er.

When I was younger I had lots of fedoras because those are the only kind of hat my dad wears. He must own at least 150 of them. In Chicago there was this store that sold them. I remember as a child every time my dad got paid he would go out and buy 3 or 4 of them at a time. So quite naturally I picked up the habit of wearing them. I stopped though when I turned 25.

The city slicker/gangster fedora can't be pulled off by anyone these days IMO.

If you're going for the beach/surfer/California sun look you can pull off a straw fedora if you've got everything else going for you.

I actually wore a fedora that I spray painted green as part of my Halloween costume last year because I was dressing up as the Fighting Irish leprechaun lol.

It has to be a casual fedora IMO. I have a dark khaki one with a brown ribbon that I love for the beach/vacation. Doesn't get much everyday use but on a hot summer night it might the call up to the big leagues.

What footwear, aside from sandals/flip-flops, do you guys wear in warmer weather?

I'm trying to find a couple pairs of "summery" shoes, but apart from Vans Slip-On line I'm not coming up with much. I do dig a couple of their patterns, though:

Also, what jackets do you guys like for early Spring/Fall? Something light for cool to luke-warm weather?

I've always liked the OG Track Jacket, but outside of that my tastes tend to favor heavier stuff.

Re: Fashion / Style advice thread

Summer fashion is so boring since you can't layer, plus wearing shorts limits your footwear options. I wear the standards...

                        1) Canvas sneakers (Vans, Chuck Taylor, Jack Purcell, etc)
                        2) Boat shoes (Sperry, Quoddy, etc)
                        3) Flip flops

                        Blah.

I'm not really one for light jackets, flannel shirts or a vest are my preferences. I own one light parka that I essentially use as a rain coat. Similar to this one from Uniqlo...

I bought a pair of brown Florsheims this past Christmas...my first pair...for $70...and holy cow do they rub on ankle.

I'm going back to my gel inserted Nunn Bush shoes.

I thought this thread existed so here is the bump.

Can anything be added to this thread about summer fashion since the last post 3 years ago lol?

I’m looking more for advice on shoes but I’ll take it on anything else as I always find summer harder to dress for than any other season.

I joined StitchFix a couple of months ago and they send a pair of Seavees (the brown pair) in my first box. I liked them so much that I ordered a second pair a little while later.

They're really comfortable, and work with shorts or pants. Just throw on a pair of no show socks and you're good to go.
