    Re: Worst in the World

If you say "Carolina is the worst", are you saying Raleigh AND Charlotte have the worst, or what?

By the OP's standards, Carolina should not be in the poll.

If you do that, you have to throw in Wisconsin pretty much (2 Milwaukee teams and Green Bay).

Charlotte has the Panthers and the Bobcats, but the Carolina Hurricanes are in Raleigh, which is a three-hour drive away.

The Panthers had a good run for awhile and were in the Super Bowl in 2004. The Hurricanes won the Stanley Cup in 2006, as well. The Bobcats have never made the NBA Playoffs.
Charlotte made the playoffs in 2010. I was there, 5 rows back of the Magic bench. We were swept, but we were there.

I was going to go with Minnesota, but then my hatred for the Browns came over me. Sorry.

I had to go with Carolina, almost went with Cleveland, given the fact that the Carolina teams have only been existence since the mid 90s (in the Panthers case, the 2000s for the Cats and Canes, of course) but the futility of those three teams got the best of me. Based on track records though (1 championship in approx. 30-ish seasons for the Carolina teams (the Canes won a Cup, right?) vs. 6 for the Cleveland teams, but none since '64) I had to take the group with the fewer number of champions.

How can Carolina be the worst sports city when there is no such city? Raleigh and Charlotte are three hours from each other. They're not even that close.

Panthers have a SB appearance and 2 NFC Title Appearances since 1996. The Hurricanes won the Stanley Cup as well. I mean the Browns have been trash for a while, the Indians have only been to one WS and lost and the Cavs went to the finals and lost. So 1-1 is better than 0-2 in that time span. Not too mention how often the Hornets were in the playoffs in the late 90s to early 2000s.

And yes, if we go by terms of city, Carolina should not be on there due to the distance between Raleigh and Charlotte. Now...we could always count Charlotte with the Bobcats, Panthers and their brand new lacrosse team the Charlotte Hounds.

Umm I put it on the timespan from 1995 when the Panthers were introduced in Charlotte to present day.

I didn't see where you put it on a timeline. Didn't know that was part of the criteria. But if its from 1995 then it would be two World Series for the Indians. 95 and 97.

I forgot about 95 lol, but in my defense, I was 6.

Just so we are clear, this isn't about the fans, right? This is about how good or bad the teams are?

Like it or not, Cleveland does deserve to be in the top 3-5 because of how dreadful the Browns and Cavs are right now. The Indians keep them from being the worst.

Still think Toronto is the worst. I think SPTO gave a good point on TFC too. Totally forgot about them, but they have been TERRIBLE since their inception to the MLS.

I'll admit, I spaced on the Panthers' Super Bowl appearance. And in hindsight, perhaps Cleveland is the better choice, but beyond simply winning championships, I look at recent history, and I see a lot of solid Cavs teams when Lebron was there, and the very recent history of the Carolina teams doesn't quite stand up to that, IMO.
