Attempted murder with a minivan, that broke my back and left me paralyzed.

I had this as a blog and decided to share it here. I have contributed to and read a lot of these threads, and because of this I was to share it with the respectful posters that come here.

I cannot walk, but I'm trying to learn again.*

On March 14th, I was hit by a minivan on the street in front of my house. The individuals that did this have not been identified or even caught. This was done on purpose, they actually hopped the curb to hit me. This incident has been covered by the news agencies in Toronto extensively. This "accident" left me with a broken L2 vertebrae and nerve damage. At this time I am unable to walk.
I am currently living at Lyndhurst Rehab Center, where I am learning how to walk again. This has been a difficult 10 weeks for me. My wife, witnessed the accident, has looked after me for the past 10 weeks and taken on all the household responsibilities. For me, not being able to move my legs is difficult. I have been athletic my whole life and I am a Phys'ed teacher. So, being active is a major part of my life. During this time, I have lost 30 pounds of muscle mass due to muscle attraphy.
Due to all of this, my sister has started a fund raiser for me and a website to help me (www.getmikewalking.com). I just thought I would put this out into the OS community to check out. Thanks for taking the time to read this blog and thank you very much if you check out the website.

Damn that's horrible. I can't for the life of me wrap my simple mind around why someone would do something like that. I hope that they catch them so that they never do anything like that to someone else and most of all I hope for your full recovery.

I also can't wrap my mind around this. The people that did this should be caught and have the full weight of the law thrown at them. Here's hoping they're caught and more importantly that you regain the use of your legs and start walking again.

This kind of stuff makes me sick. Why people do these things is beyond me.

I checked out that site, and you look like you have some great friends and family members who will be with you through this process. My wife has done rehab nursing and she has seen people in your condition get better and walk again all the time. So there is no doubt that you will do the same.

I was walking in the pool yesterday. It feels great standing up and moving.

Absolutely random. They egged my house, drove off and when they came back...they ran me over.

I'm sorry to hear. But that is total BS. If the cops don't catch them, Karma will. Always does.

Good luck to you and your family (it's not just the victim who gets affected in these but the family as well). I wish nothing but the best to you and yours through this whole process.

Yeah, just take solace that the universe will balance out on them. And that's a better and more fair punishment than anything the law will give them.

Just focus on yourself and try not to be angry. I can't imagine having such a fundamental thing such as walking taken away from me in such a senseless act, but you've got to focus on the positive. And when you get walking again, and you WILL, you take your lady out for a great time.

So sorry to hear about this but if there can be any positive taken out of it, like the bond you and your significant other have, or the strength and perseverance within yourself to overcome, then it was an obstacle that was meant to be.
