Go in tomorrow just to quit. Use music, be creative, dance a lot. I wouldn't worry about burning bridges with this guy. Chances are everyone who matters knows what a dick he is, and you'll never want to work for him or have him as a reference.

Would your boss give you a two week notice before firing you? Only you can answer that question and if he would be so kind, I would stay the 2 weeks.

I would wish your co-workers well then go tell the boss what you think of him in front on everyone.

Don't list this guy on your resume (your stint was too short to matter to a perspective employer anyway), announce that today is your last day, then turn and leave.

We met again at the end of the day yesterday and set an end date of 2/1. He's interviewing people in the mean time. I like to think I'm a decent person and I want to do what's right even if I'm not happy with the situation. I'll stay the two weeks unless he starts copping an attitude with me.

There's really no reason to burn bridges. Even if you think there's 0 chance you'll never see the guy again, life has a funny way of doing things sometimes. Best to take the high road.

Haven't updated this in a while.

With film work being slow (read: no one getting back to me), I decided to stay and help train the future.

With that I agreed to stay till mid-June (approximately end of event season) so I can train everyone and give my boss time during the summer. A nice gesture but also not a bad idea since no one got back to me!

Then my boss reveals to me that the guy who was supposedly going to take my place can't come on and likely won't till after the summer.

Well, that's not my problem. But my boss has started talking to me as if I'll be around forever. Mentioning plans in June and October. I really don't feel like repeating myself to him.

Anyway, I decided against teaching because its more school and a new career. While I could use my summers to focus on film, I would be tied down during the school year and will always have the itch to work on projects.

So I've made a more crazy decision to look into bartending. It pays well and will be much more flexible. Of course I have no experience so I'm already looking into my options in preparation for June.

I am saving money to survive the summer without a job but I am trying now to have something by then. It's tough because of the amount of hours I work between now and mid June.

Opportunities to bartend and train are lost because I work events on days being offered. I'm trying to talk to some bars to see if they would take me on for free on weekends. I just want to have the experience so I can find something later.

I'm also looking into bartending school. Though I hear its a waste of time, I feel someone with my lack of experience in the industry could only benefit from having a bartending license.

Anyone ever done it or know anyone?

I need to get out of this job. Leaving without a job in place is becoming such a strong possibility even if it seems stupid. Reality is work at this place doesn't give me time to find a new job so it becomes a never ending cycle.

I need to leave so I can find work. Catch-22 but its my reality.

I've done this twice and it's never easy to do.

The first time I was only a few years out of college and was selling copy machines/printer to businesses. We had a great team and my sales manager was awesome. We all went out for Happy Hour often and he did his best to help us with sales. It wasn't paying the best however (60% commission) and I found something better and less stressful. I went in on a Monday morning and informed him I was turning in my two weeks and thanked him for the opportunity and told him I really enjoyed my time there. He was a bit sad because someone else had just resigned 1 hour before me but he understood. I asked him if he would be a reference for me and he said "Absolutely".

The second time was just this past December for a software company. I had grown frustrated with several project managers and turnover was very high. I had interviewed and accepted a job in early December and had to wait for the background check to clear for a security clearance that was required for this job as a programmer on a military base (working for a contractor to the government). The pay was big increase and I just wanted to move on. I had worked for my boss before in a sales management position before going back to college for a 2nd degree (in programming). It was really hard going in the day after I was told I passed the clearance check to tell him I was giving my two weeks. He totally understood and offered to be a reference down the road, and thanked me for everything I had done there.

Never burn bridges because you never know if you might need a reference down the line.

Hope you know somebody...you'll be hard pressed to get a decent bartending gig in NYC without having any in-roads and no experience.

Im kind of like that where I am now also. I started the job back in March so have only been there for 2 months now. It has been a real struggle to get up to go and have even called in a few times ( as I have actually been sick ) but I have put this down to stress. When I get home I just sit and go on the computer or TV as Im not in the mood for much, usually by this time of Year I would be out on the trails everyday after work on my bike or sitting out in the yard reading a book enjoying the waether.

I have never really had stress in my life, or very little I should say and never had work stress which is good. But when you wake up debating whether to call in sick or go and not having much enthusiasm for anything else Id say that's work stress and time for a change?

Anybody could lend any advice that would be awesome. There are some other things that have gone on that I dont want to mention here but would talk about in a PM.

No Its not my first job. I was at my last one for 13 years before they closed a few months ago.
