No they won't. 2 years ago when Randolph went beast mode against the Thunder did we hear about him after that or did he get extra coverage the following year?

LeBron didn't earn any spot. Guy was 24/7 coverage before he even hit the league. Everything he does is a media spectacle.

Well the thing about the NBA is rarely does anyone believe that the smaller teams can upset the favorites which is usually true.

MLB goes through such a long season that if they made the playoffs it's pretty easy to accept anyone could win it. NFL too with how difficult it can be to win 10+ games to get a playoff spot.

Even if LBJ is the greatest athlete in the world he still gets way too much coverage. I don't want to see stories or analysis and breakdowns of LBJ losing while the winning team receives no credit or coverage. To me that is bad journalism, bad marketing, and makes the sport's appeal very small.

I like teams like the Pacers, Grizz, Spurs, this postseasons Bulls, etc because they're "nobodies" but they still contended with the Heat. I don't need a "superstar" to tune in or to root for because that defeats the purpose of the sport as a whole. I want the team to win with good team work and chemistry and I hate depending on a "star" to load up his team - because if the star fails the team fails.

There are easy ways to market teams/players that aren't Kevin Durant, LBJ, Blake Griffin, etc but Stern isn't about that for some reason.

Most everything I posted up to this point has just been perspective. However, who is better than he? He's the greatest in the world ryte now. True he had coverate before he was in the league, but that attention didn't take away from his talent. The way he is playing now, he has earned that coverage. And this coming from a guy who despises LeBron. FWIW, I also hated Jordan. But their talents have my respect.

I have no reason to wish a television ratings train wreck on the NBA. So that factor means absolutely nothing to me. I'm sure Pacers vs. Grizzlies would have provided an entertaining series. Just not enough to make me want to watch each game from start to finish.

Hell, even Miami vs. San Antonio isn't enough to draw me in for a full 3 hours. Will probably only be tuning in for the 4th quarter of each game if I'm not busy.

I actually think highest quality is at night(like 11pm and later). On local FOX channel, in a 90 min timespan, I saw them airing Simpsons,How I Met Your Mother and Friends! Something you don't see at any other time of the day

It's the medias fault for that. They bury the non big markets all the time, so when it comes time for playoffs, nobody cares about those teams. They're like "Grizzlies vs Pacers in NBA finals...ya, those are two good teams....."(even though those 2 teams would have beaten the Spurs and Heat 4 times!).

Football I always hear talk about many diff teams, and hockey especially too(some hockey markets get buried when talking about skill level on team, but it's a team like Phoenix and Florida...their 4-5 fans won't care). Baseball is a fair amount(though I watched a national game once featuring Yankees and some "small city market" and the NATIONAL broadcasters only talked about the Yankees, even though smaller market team was winning...)

NBA you really only ever hear about the big teams(Heat,Lakers,Celtics,Knicks among others)

You have to use NBA specific news outlets if you want real coverage of the entire league.

While ESPN claims to be the world wide leader in sports, they only have a huge obligation to cover what the majority of people will actually watch.

I don't blame them for not doing a daily segment on the Toronto Raptors.

Same with some of the other leagues. The only teams getting a lot of coverage are the compelling or popular teams.

Well, that's the moral standard that we'd all like the public/media to live up to, but when does that EVER happen? Nobody ever talks about the team; it's all "How good is Player X?!". It's just beat into our heads even on a subliminal level. In promos for upcoming games it's "Crosby and the Penguins take on Chara and the Bruins"

I'd say the Spurs are the closest to being recognized/marketed as a TEAM. I don't watch the NBA, so I could be wrong, but from an outsider's perspective it seems like they are one of the few teams (in any sport, really) who people refer to as a TEAM.

Just watching ESPN today, it's like Lebron vs. the Spurs.

The team stream thing from BR is pretty decent but I prefer just following my favorite team's official twitter account.

Anyway, completely random but I'm at a crossroads in my "OS career". I log onto the site daily and I'm starting to ignore the gaming sections I used to love to visit. I only come on here for the NBA forum with a dash of the 2k forum.

Is it weird to log onto a gaming site and ignore the gaming sections? I don't know if I'm tired of reading people's thoughts on what a dev should do or what...

This. The League channels are fantastic. I love the NFL, MLB, and NBA networks.

And as much as I used to trash baseball, I have really enjoyed this year. MLB Network has really changed my opinion on the sport. I also think it has the best programming, TBH; followed closely by the NBA TV. Although, those shows where Shaq, Barkley and co. sit around and talk and debate is a great watch.
