Re: Off Topic 2013
Some of the **** in a written test never even comes up on the road, especially the obscene amount of road signs you will never see.
Passed both my written and driving test first try, but the written was much more difficult. I had been driving around the house for years, including pulling trailers and driving old 50s and 60s manual Jeeps.Comment

Re: Off Topic 2013
My driving test consisted of driving for 4 blocks in one big square. Right, left, left, left, right back into the parking lot. It was kind of funny seeing the DMV sitting right next to the liquor store. They literally shared the same parking lot, sitting side by side.
Didn't have to parallel park, didn't have to 3 point turn, none of that. As long as you didn't speed and stayed in your lane, you passed. But then again I purposely took my test in the suburbs and not in Chicago. DMVs inside of a major city, oh man you will be standing in line for 3 hours or more, with them asking for 3 or more forms of ID.
Go to the suburbs or small towns, no lines what so ever. In and out in 3 minutes. Oh you only have 1 form of ID ? Not a problem, that is all we need, I believe you.Comment

Re: Off Topic 2013
Mine was generally like GMSS.
He made sure you knew how to turn the high beams on.. I did actually have to parallel park.
Other than that, I can remember my route exactly.
Make a left.. drive a block.. make a right... drive a block.. make a left.. drive a block.. make a right.. drive a block, oh look.. my exes house, drive another block.. make a left.. drive three blocks.. turn back into the DMV.--

Re: Off Topic 2013
For me growing up, driver's ed was a part of gym class, it was required. Did it for 5 weeks, then you had to go to traffic school for 2 weeks which was held outside of high school some where else, then after you passed that, you were allowed to go to the DMV. Unless you were 18, then you didn't need driver's ed or traffic school.
I always wondered what it would have been like to drive to school. I was so envious of the kids who drove to school and had their own car. Especially during the winter time or when it was raining. I would give them all the finger when they would say oh look it is raining or snowing.
Or the days when every teacher gave you home work on the same day, so your book bag was loaded with books, I would give all those kids the finger on those days as well.Comment

Re: Off Topic 2013
We didn't have Driver's Ed as a class in high school. I had to go spend 2 hours at driving school every day for a few weeks after I got done with school that day.
I did not enjoy that.
Also I still don't know how to parallel park. I haven't done it since I was 15 and had my temps. Didn't have to do it on the driver's test.Member: OS Uni Snob Association | Twitter: @MyNameIsJesseG | #WT4M | #WatchTheWorldBurn

Re: Off Topic 2013
My school had Driver's Ed on a Saturday. It was actually the Saturday of the Columbia shuttle re-entry disaster.
The class started at 8am which is criminal in and of itself. I lived far away from my HS so it takes a while to get there. I got to the class at like, 8:20am or so and walk in as the HS dean was already in his lecture. He stops what he's doing and says "Well look who decided to join us." I said something like "yeah, I know, crazy morning" or something like that. I start walking to a seat and he's like "What are you doing?" I said, "Walking to my seat?" He's like "No, I don't want you here."
I look at him with this dumbfounded look and he's like "I'm serious. Everyone else was able to come on time. Go home."
I was like "Welp, see ya later." and went home. Didn't attend another class, just did the driving school instead. **** that.Comment

Re: Off Topic 2013
I failed the driving test the first time I took it.
They made us park along an empty curb and then once stopped we had to put the car in reverse and back up 10 feet without either A.) hitting the curb or B.) have the rear tire end up more than 9 inches from the curb. I knew I wasn't completely, one thousand percent even with the curb when I stopped but being a super nervous, idiot teenager, I didn't try to compensate when reversing and just let it go too far from the curb. I was pretty mad at myself after that one.
They made us drive all around east county San Diego, where the DMV was, it was really stressful, and awkward.Last edited by The JareBear; 07-18-2013, 07:49 PM."Successful people do not celebrate in the adversity or misfortune of others."
