A United Airlines pilot has been arrested for running a string of brothels in apartment complexes throughout Houston.

Bruce Wayne Wallis, 51, was charged with aggravated promotion of prostitution and engaging in criminal activity, accused of running about a half-dozen brothel apartments with six to 10 women in each one.

Court records show that the women advertised online and had to pay Wallis $400 a week to ply their trade.

Assistant Harris County District Attorney Lester Blizzard confirmed that Wallis was a pilot for United Airlines and said the criminal enterprise operation was "massive."

Yeah, it's getting real easy these days.

I don't know where or how (whether it was from a physical card skimmer someplace or a data breach online) but my debit card got compromised just last week. Had a couple online charges attempted, thankfully they apparently only had the card number, not the 3 digit code on the back, so my bank caught and rejected the attempted charges before any money was lost. Had to have the card closed and cancelled and waiting on a new card.

Though even after my new card shows up, I may stick to cash more than I have in the past because I can't say I want to potentially repeat this in the future.

Yeah, it's sometime later this year I think that merchants start ending up on the hook for not having machines for chipped cards if a stolen card gets used in their store. I think similar time that banks have to switch to start issuing only chipped cards.

Unfortunately my bank hadn't made the switch yet when they sent out my previous debit card, hopefully this one has a chip. Otherwise I'll be going back later this year when I know they have finally switched and demanding a switch to a chipped card, even if my new debit may not expire for 3 years.

Tuck the debit card deep into the wallet and don't use it unless you have to. Use a credit card if you do need to use a card. Had the bank not caught the transactions the money would have been sucked out of your account. At the very least with a credit card you aren't actually temporarily losing any money like when a debit card gets used.

The fact that we aren't universally on the chip and PIN system by now is ridiculous.

Yeah, I've actually gotten used to using nothing but cash this past week while waiting for my new card to show up, so locally I'm gonna cut back on how much I use it and start using more cash. Even online, switch to either credit or PayPal for stuff. I definitely got lucky the bank caught the attempted transactions. One of them was for $123, another for like $200. That would have hurt like a bitch to have that much money suddenly missing.

The good thing, probably, is that my bank is a smaller "local" bank regionalized in just NW Ohio, NE Indiana and SE Michigan, and they "pride themselves" on customer service, which actually has always been excellent when I've contacted them in the past, so it's much easier to dispute stuff and probably could get the money restored within hours. I'd just rather not have to deal with that hassle if I don't have to, lol.

It was required as of last October for merchants to avoid responsibility for fraud.
