Re: Uncommon Opinions
I never cared for Soundgarden, and I think Black Hole Sun is one of, if not the most overrated, overplayed modern rock song.Comment

As time goes on I find myself listening to less and less grunge era bands. Put on Alice in Chains in a whim and it ended up boring me after a song or two and had to change it out.

Re: Uncommon Opinions
Gotta say, I do like Soundgarden. Also, Lake of Fire is probably my favorite Nirvana song. Either that, Dumb, or In Bloom. That changes every so often. But Alice In Chains was easily the best to come out of the grunge era. Easily.MLB: Minnesota Twins

Re: Uncommon Opinions
Cornell's 3 album stretch of Temple of the Dog, Badmotorfinger, and Superunknown beats anything any other band or artist did in the 90s.

Re: Uncommon Opinions
I like Soundgarden, but I prefer Audioslave.
Temple of the Dog was an amazing project. A budding Pearl Jam with Cornell and Matt Cameron. "Say Hello To Heaven" is an amazing song. AMAZING.
1990's Alice in Chains was great stuff....they had the 'grungiest' sound. I mean, the sonic color of a song like "Angry Chair" is just BLACK, especially that opening chord, wow. Then they turned fans on their ear with 'Jar of Flies' and those acoustic-based songs like "No Excuses" and "I Stay Away". They were brilliant.
I hate that Pearl Jam were even lumped into the 'grunge' genre, because to me they are a rock band, almost a 70's throwback. They are like a collision of Dylan, Neil Young, Black Sabbath and surf music. Yet what sets them apart and spawned THEIR imitators is Eddie's singular voice. He's becoming the new Dylan...go listen to his solo stuff (Into the Wild, Ukelele Songs..even PJ's 'Backspacer').
PJ is my favorite Seattle band from the 1990's.GO 'HAWKS!

Also, Alice in Chains' Right Turn is one of my favorites from the 90s. Cornell kills it, but the song just gets stuck in my craw every damn time.

Re: Uncommon Opinions
Teen Spirit is a middle of the pack song for Nirvana. Just about everything on In Utero is better than it.
And while I respect Nirvana's place in history, I do think they're overrated. I like Nirvana, but I like Pearl Jam, Soundgarden and Alice In Chains more.Comment

re: Soundgarden
I don't know who this guy is, but I think its a feeling a lot of people have about Black Hole Sun. I don't "hate it," but I don't understand the unadulterated admiration this song gets and the cheers that erupt at concerts. I'm also of the mindset that Badmotorfinger > Superunknown. I don't agree with him on anything else, but its fun to read nonetheless.
