I drink once in a great while. Like Dickey, I wouldn't say it's pointless or stupid in moderation but if you're doing it to get completely smashed to the point that you don't remember what you did than yeah....That's just straight up stupid.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: Uncommon Opinions
Hello everyone, I have just come across this thread tonight so sorry if this one has been posted but the opinion I have that NONE of my friends have is that I think alcohol is one of the dumbest things ever. I hate how every time we want to get together to do something (Watch a game, golf, go on the river) my friends feel the need to get trashed. Maybe it's just the people I hang around or the fact I am the only one getting married and who has a "real world" job so I don't see the need to get hammered every weekend and feel like crap once Monday comes around but whenever I see beer I just get an upset feeling.
Why can't people just have fun sober for once?

Elitist a who think they are above people who drink! Would it be ok if they were all highly successful and got wasted!
I'm just playing devils advocate.

Re: Uncommon Opinions
I just never acquired the taste for alcohol. Its just a game of finding the least terrible tasting drink and drinking mostly that. But I recognize the social benefits to it lol.
But I have zero problems with people who drink. Why should I care? Just dont hurt people with dumb decisions like drunk driving.Comment

Alcohol is fine, you just gotta know your limits. That's not an uncommon opinion, it's just something it takes many people a while to find out.

Re: Uncommon Opinions
Yeah, as long as people don't get behind the wheel of a car, they shouldn't be looked down on for drinking.
I give major props to the police these days for really cracking down on drunk driving. My dad and uncles tell plenty of stories about waking up in the morning to go do chores (they lived on a farm) and having no idea how they got home the previous night, but the car was somewhere on the property so they obviously drove home, haha.
Just last weekend I was at one of the local bars here at home with some friends. We always carpool and then park at the library in case we need to walk home. I was thinking about driving home (I know I would have made it home just fine, only a couple minute drive), but the thought of getting a DUI deterred me pretty quickly from seriously thinking about it.
And hell, half the time the drunken walk home with your buddies is the most fun part of the night, lol.University of Minnesota Golden Gopher Hockey

Re: Uncommon Opinions
It sounds more like your friends than the alcohol itself. I go out with people all the time here, last night even. We drink for several hours, talk about random **** and what not, and it's fun. We don't get wasted. We never wake up with hangovers because our goal isn't to pound a dozen beers in an hour or two. Beer is just good to drink, if you get the right beer. I mean every once and awhile, like if it is someone's birthday, they'll drink way too much, but that doesn't happen often.
And because this is a smaller town, most of us live close by and just walk to the bars. No driving needed so saves us all.Comment

I don't drink anymore. Every couple months I'll have a glass of wine if we get a nice bottle or go out to one of the nicer restaurants, but there is almost nothing appealing about alcohol to me anymore.
Like others have said though, if you enjoy it that's completely fine. Don't do or say anything idiotic to me and we'll be fine. People acting an *** and using being drunk as a reason/excuse have a problem.badComment

Re: Uncommon Opinions
I'm getting to that point. I'm 23 and used to be fine getting smashed for no reason. Now I am realizing it's getting harder and harder the day after and have really cut back to only drinking after a long day or week at work.Comment

Re: Uncommon Opinions
I once drank an entire fifth of rum in one night. Not bragging because let me tell you, the next day I felt like I was on the verge of death. After that I realized that getting hammered just to do it isn't so much fun.
You gotta know your limits when drinking. Otherwise then I'd say it's pointless and really just plain stupid.Indianapolis Colts

Re: Uncommon Opinions
I've split a half gallon with someone in a day/night before and the next day was certainly rough, but it was the 4th of July and I didn't even care.
Honestly, I think drinking and recovery should be easier. As I've gotten older, I've also become smarter. I stay away from liquor that my body doesn't like (Vodka specifically). I really only drink good beer and rum.
I went bowling last night and drank 6 beers along with a few margaritas at dinner beforehand and I woke up just fine this morning with no hangover.
Now I'm at work and feeling great besides a little hunger. If I ever have a hangover, it was from way too much to drink or the wrong balance of things (food/water/alcohol). I can mix things just fine and be okay.
It is what you make out of it. When you go in to a bar and observe a little, you notice the different types of drinkers right in front of you.
Drinking enhances some things I all ready enjoy doing (grilling, sporting events, bowling, pool, the lake, etc.). That doesn't mean getting **** faced and doing those things all the time, but a nice cold captain and coke on a nice fall afternoon in the South, along with my grill and some college football on TV is just the way I like it.Comment
