People who are nostalgic for times they never lived in, especially when the only thing they know of a particular time period are either the best parts of that time or extremely idealized visions of it via movies/tv shows/books are extremely irritating. Every generation has had its ****ty parts and it's good parts but for much of what was produced in the past, and this should be obvious to many people but it's not, pretty much the only thing that has any lasting power is what was good.

      * Even though Hitchcock is a great director and really knows how to use imagery. Only 3 of his films are actually good. Most of his films are so, freaking, boring, get a better plot. His is overrated a lot of times.

Psycho, Rear Window, and North by Northwest.

Basically his three most famous films. The only film that i actually liked after watching it the first time was, North by Northwest. I ended up liking Psycho and Rear Window after watching it a second time and analyzing them.

I would put The Lady Vanishes above NxNW. The Birds, too but I consider that one of his guilty pleasures.

So, you're saying that The 39 Steps, The Lady Vanishes, Rebecca, Shadow of a Doubt, Notorious, Rope, Strangers on a Train, Dial M for Murder, Vertigo and The Birds aren't good movies? Okay...

i actually fell asleep watching Dial M for Murder. i didn't like Notorious that much. I actually forgot about Shadow of a Doubt, that's a pretty good film. I haven't seen Rope, Vertigo, and The 39 Steps (I was thinking about watching Vertigo and Rope, but forgot about it). The Birds wasn't bad, but it wasn't great either. The Lady Vanishes, Rebecca, and Strangers on a Train, didn't like them that much.

I'm not saying that all the others films are bad, but they aren't as good as people make them.

This. I heard someone talking about the "good old days" in the 1960s and my response was "oh, you mean the good old days when people were being lynched because of skin color and people were forced to serve in the vietnam war?"
Crazy how people idealize stuff just because it is older. Older does not mean better.

Well, there are a lot of things that sucked then that don't suck now and there are a lot of things that didn't suck then and don't suck now.

All depends what you're talking about.

I get that, but if you've never even seen Vertigo then you have no business "grading" Hitch.

i've already seen around 20-25 films from Hitchcock, and i can't give my opinion because i haven't seen Vertigo?

I'm not grading Hitchcock, i'm just giving my Opinion from what i've seen. jezz

Have you seen Rope? It's a FANTASTIC movie with lots of great acting by the entire cast and is a tour de force with the camera work. It's essentially a film done like a play BUT the seamless transitions (there are only 3 or 4 scene transitions/takes in the entire film) are a thing to behold.

                              Plus you know, James Stewart

Check it out if you haven't, I think you'll come away liking it.

I'm going to check Vertigo first, because 55 said that i can't talk about Hitchcock if i haven't even seen Vertigo. After watching Vertigo, then i'll check Rope out.
