Some crappy news today for the hobby. Panini is discontinuing all baseball cards. I know they don't have the MLB license, but their products were affordable and fun. Some of the only hobby boxes I can afford.Comment

Re: Official OS Sports Card Collecting Thread
Not going after high end cards, just looking at base ones for the sake of "collecting" certain players.
Anyone know if cards exist (outside of the panini championship pack) of Kawhi post 18/19 season without the Clippers logo on it?
Seems like any Raptors card I find of him post championship is with the Raptors jersey but Clippers logo (obviously there wasn't much time between the title and free agency but would've been nice to have a regular card post title win without having his new team on it).Comment

Re: Official OS Sports Card Collecting Thread
Grabbed a dollar pack of Donruss Basketball at the Dollar Store last night. Pulled a Yellow Flood Victor Wembayama. Nice centering and sharp edges...turned it over to find one of the back corners with a nick.
Just my buzzard luck!Comment

Re: Official OS Sports Card Collecting Thread
This past month I decided to get all my cards out and possibly get back into it.
It's been YEARS since I actually did anything card related.
I had forgot I was trying to get the complete 1991 NFL Pro Set completed
Have all but I believe 14 cards now. Have 7 packs unopened and a full unopened box.
Think the most "valuable" is the Belichick card (Browns) and a referee card, from looking into it.
Either way I just want to finish the set I stared back when I was in my 20's lol
I got a few of each.
Have a few from my 60's 70's and 80"s Baseball/football cards sleaved and ready to send out for grading. I'm only doing the ones that are in average to great (IMO) shape.
Just figured I'd do something now that I'm retiredJoshua:

So if I understand, those 14 cards could potentially be pulled from original packs? You have the making of a cool Youtube channel right there, each episdoe is an opening of one pack and the checklist. I would subscribe and like, lol! That's exciting!
Completing sets is so exciting and addictive. My crown jewel was completing my 1974 Topps Baseball set that I had about 75% of the collection pulled from packs when I was 6 years old. Very surreal completing that set.Comment

New to the whole "Get graded etc.." process but I'm getting there.

Re: Official OS Sports Card Collecting Thread
I'd look at this trove of unopened packs and boxes as a Schrodinger's Cat scenario and when does one open the packs. I've seen videos on guys opening '74 packs. I'd love to experience that one more time, but when!Comment

Re: Official OS Sports Card Collecting Thread
I saw a tweet over the summer saying advertising that people could buy a 2024 Topps Now Paul Skenes card so I bought one. It said that the only ones that will be produced are the ones that are ordered. A Few weeks ago I say a tweet from the Pirates official twitter offering a sweet reward for whoever finds the 2024 Topps Chrome Paul Skenes MLB debut card if they turned it over to the Pirates (2 season tickets behind home plate for 30 years, 2 autographed jerseys, a softball game for 30 people at PNC park, private tour of their spring training facility) so I bought a box of 7 packs of 2024 Topps Chrome on Amazon. Of course I didn't get the Skenes card.
This got me to return to a project I had started way back in 2006 or so of organizing and cataloging all of my cards (baseball, football, and a few basketball and hockey). I think I had nearly catalogued all of them before I moved out of my mom's house and into an apartment and left them behind. I had them catalogued in Excel spreadsheets with a table for each set/sear. I'd also begun looking up cards in some price guides I'd bought. I apparently returned to it in 2013 (I started dating when I looked up cards on a website I think it was freebaseballcardlookup. com or something like that). Returning to it a few weeks ago, I saw that I had looked up most of my baseball cards so I set about merging all the tables into a single table and also a table for the total number of cards and values for each brand/year. I found I have 6952 unique cards mostly from the late 80's to early 90's.
I also looked up the remaining sets on sportscardspro. com which is free and gives you ungraded and graded values. I used ungraded values but started wondering about card grading especially after seeing that the ungraded and PS-10 graded values for my best card differed by 2 orders of magnitude. A quick Google search revealed that having cards professionally graded is quite expensive and the cost for getting 1 card graded can far exceed the actual value of the card.
As for looking up the Topps Chrome cards... Well, each card has a base version and about 40-50 different refractor variants. And I thought it was bad when each set had 10+ different subsets. It's ridiculous having to scroll through all those different variants to see which refractor I have, and being visually impaired makes it even tougher.
Anyway, I really want to get my cards from my mom's basement and bring them to my apartment so I can finish everything. I know some of them unfortunately got damaged when her basement flooded which is a story in and of itself that I told on here a while back (Fence company thought it was a good idea to cut a section of the sump pump pipe to install a fence). I think it was a complete set of '88 or '89 Donruss. Fortunately my grandma had bought me numerous plastic card containers over the years so most of them that were on the floor were protected. Well, time to get ready for bed so time to wrap up this Blazr-esque post.Steelers : IX, X, XIII, XIV, XL, XLIII

Re: Official OS Sports Card Collecting Thread
Just got back into the hobby this past May after being away for over 20 years. I had some old cards stored; so many Kobes I had, I graded a few rookie cards I had. It's been a crazy ride! I have some crazy cards and love it; it was so overwhelming at first because I was collecting and ripping everything, but I got smart quickly and started collecting certain players for my PC and starting buying singles as it became quite expensive ripping.
My PC is included as of now.
Elly De La Cruz
Jayden Daniles
Anthony Richardson- Hope he tunrns is around
Malik Nabers
Brian Thomas Jr
LaMelo Ball
I'll still rip, but now crazy as I did back in May through AugustN.Y Mets
N.Y Giants
N.Y Knicks
N.Y Islanders
Miami Hurricanes
