So, without getting too deep, would the basic 36 pack hobby box be the way to go?
Yeah that's probably the way to start. Work your way up

If you're looking to complete a set, then I think a jumbo box would be a good way to go. A jumbo box of Topps is 10 packs of 50 cards each pack. You are guaranteed 2 relic cards and 1 autograph card, and also some insert cards. You are pretty much guaranteed to get every card in that series too. A hobby box is only 360 cards total so it's tough to complete a whole set with those. Not saying they are a bad buy, but I prefer a jumbo box. A hobby box usually goes for about $50-$60, and a jumbo box between $100-$120.

I went with the jumbos (but I got a case). It all comes down to how much you are willing to spend.

This is true. When I got back into collecting, I bought a Topps 2012 Series 1 hobby box and was not able to complete the set with that. I had to go to another source to get the remaining cards needed to complete it. Buying the jumbo boxes since then, I have always gotten every base card with no problem.

Buying all these short print cards on ebay is starting to add up. lol. My bank statement is showing all Paypal transactions lately. Haha.

            Check out this site: www.cardsinfinity.com

This dude does video breaks and he is the best in the business. I've done 3 video breaks. Usually when I buy from him, I will have him open a couple and send a couple sealed. It is pretty cool to buy a box and watch it opened on YouTube and then get the contents later on.

I'm not really looking to complete the set. At least right now. I may get into that down the road, but I'd rather start with something around $50, just in case I end up not getting as into it as I hope to.

I prefer Team BoxBreak for my box/case breaks if and when I do them.

They're on twitter ( @TeamBoxBreak ) as well, and Bryan is fantastic with his customer service.

I know some websites give you a discount if you record your box/case break and put the video on YouTube. All you have to do is say you bought it from there and print out their logo and hold it up for a few seconds.

Definitely something to think about if you record that stuff anyways. Saves you some money.

I know http://atlsportscards.com/ does it, if anybody is interested.

I haven't done it before, but they have videos on the website from people that have.

Re: Official OS Sports Card Collecting Thread

So I purchased a Hobby box the other day in search of an Almora(this one http://www.comc.com/Cards/Baseball/2...Almora/6265204) and came up empty. Was this close to going out and getting another box, but instead got lucky with a ebay auction and won one for 30 bucks with shipping.

So in the end I spent a total of 69 bucks for a hobby box and this card. All for about 20 bucks less that what a box would cost me at the card shop. I call this a win-win situation.

What are the best options for 2012 boxes? I'd like to get started there and try and get some Harper and Trout cards, then work my way up to this year's boxes.

Bowman is the best bet for prospects.

You'll get Harpers and Trouts in most base sets. Depends on what kind of cards you are looking for.
