I looked at the pictures on the eBay auctions, and that helped a little bit. The reason I'm skeptical is that they are still so white on the edges. Most of the cards you find from that set have some color showing due to age. Another thing is the corners, particularly on the Rizzuto. Cards in that set don't come with that sharp of corners, and it leads me to believe that someone might have shaved the edges or something.

Hopefully it's just me looking into it though, because if that isn't the case you can make quite a bit of money off of that Rizzuto if it comes back with a decent grade. It looks as good or better than the PSA 5 that sold for almost $100 a while back.

Edit: The back of the Rizzuto is going to hurt the grade.

No, that's all really good information/advice. I would hope no one tampered with the cards and the only thing giving me some confidence is that they are from a business with over 10,000 transactions with an actual feedback of 99.7. It looks like two people bought hot wheels cars from the guy and negged him for not combining shipping fees and once again for something trivial. Which still doesn't make your concerns any less troubling.

I have included a link to the two cards both blown up. I always love a second opinion, but if you think the corners are shaved, please let me know.

EDIT: I noticed earlier that if you look at the back of the Rizzuto card you can see some corner wear. Not that this is a good thing, but I would hope it indicates that corners have been left alone.

The larger pictures look better. It might have just been hard to see in the first pictures you posted. The left side of the Rizzuto still looks a little strange, but the corners look a lot more how you would expect them to. I think they are legit.

Love that set by the way, nice choices on that. I like the 1951 Bowman set too.

          Phew!

Haha, yeah thanks a lot man. I want to break into the vintage market more and more and I agree about the 51 Bowman set as well. Same with the 1952 Topps set. Both amazing.

I did blow up the picture of my Rizzuto card and one that is already graded, and the only thing I noticed off about the two was the colors, but I know the graded card was taken with a totally different camera and was not as close up.

Thanks again though. Although the thought is always in the back of my mind, I probably was not as careful as I should have been about counterfeit cards.

Well I got my box from Topps the other day, and unfortunately it was what I thought it would be, a retail box. Even though retail/hobby Topps Chrome is the same price, they are very different. You get 2 autos per box with Chrome, and retail you're lucky if you get something at all. I opened the box with my dad, and although I didn't get anything great, it was fun to open, especially since I didn't pay for it

                  Spoiler

The three best cards I got were a Yu Darvish X-Fractor rookie, Andrelton Simmons refractor rookie and a Yoenis Cespedes base rookie card.
I found that Cargo rookie when I was going through my box of Diamondback cards that I hadn't in probably 5 years when my dad and I sorted them all to begin with. I guess back then I had never heard of him or he wouldn't have gone in their to begin with!

Ugh, I hate BCCG. It's a total weird deal by Beckett.

Here's a good posting on it.

Shop by department, purchase cars, fashion apparel, collectibles, sporting goods, cameras, baby items, and everything else on eBay, the world's online marketplace

Book value for a 1954 Bowman Mantle in VgEx (equates to about a 4 on the normal scales) is $450.

Beckett's other grading services are amazing, but I avoid BCCG at all costs normally. For those that do go to choose this route, I'll post a quick breakdown of what BCCG ratings would be as a PSA.

BCCG 10 = PSA 9; also raw (ungraded) card value is a pretty good estimate here.
                      BCCG 9 = PSA 7.
                      BCCG 8 = PSA 5.
                      BCCG 7 = PSA 4.

Be careful out on eBay fellas, it's a dangerous world.

Also, in the article I linked it avoids which grading services to avoid like the plague.

That's a really good read. I kind of wish I would have saw that before my purchase, but I have no regrets.

Do you think I should send it in to PSA if I want to resell it?

I think that would seemingly carry more weight with the serious collectors that way.

Anything pre 2000 is preferably PSA imo and everything newer than 2000 Beckett, although I have an 02 PSA 10 Votto rookie. If it is for your own collection though, it doesn't matter a ton which one you go with.

I'm pretty sure you don't have to be a member to send cards in. You just get a few extras if you pay like $100 to become one.
