I remember my teacher frequently looking at me throughout, but me being naive and not realizing that she most likely 100% knows what I'm doing, I didn't think it was a big deal. Ya know.. "Teacher I'm just bored so I'm tapping my book against my leg" is probably what I was thinking of saying if she asked.

    Ughhh....

Last year when I was substitute teaching I was covering a study hall with freshmen and sophomores. 99.9% sure halfway through class some kid was jacking it. I was terrified and had no idea what to do in that situation. They didn't cover that in my education classes. Since it was study hall, I was just sitting in the front reading and he was in the back corner of the room. No way I was gonna confront him or anything because that's awkward and gross. I got up to throw something out just hoping that me walking towards the other side of the room would scare him into stopping but nope he didn't care. Thank god, I don't think any of the other kids noticed. Class was relatively empty and most kids were listening to ipods.

I mean.....what the hell? I'd rather the entire class get into a brawl than have that happen.

Baumy and I used to be cool. We would talk on xbox live and then he would have to go on patrol for a bit to make it look like he actually worked.

Then he stopped talking to me.

I stutter. It's not very noticeable and I'm able to mask it well, but it still affects me greatly psychologically. When I speak it's not a "s-s-s-s-s-stutter" but an impediment where my breathing is jacked so air gets blocked in my throat and my vocal cords don't move. I literally just cannot speak. It would be so easy if I could just slow down when I speak or breathe deeply and slowly, but I start talking a mile a minute, get social anxiety, and then it's game over. I say "um" and "uh" a lot to help mask it or will change the word to avoid it. I am deathly afraid of public speaking and can have a hard time speaking up in meetings and presentations. One on one or in small groups, I can speak pretty fluently but when I get around a big group of people I lock up. The worst is on the telephone or when I introduce myself. Most people don't notice unless I tell them, but it still takes a toll on my self-confidence and psyche on a day-to-day basis.

I've been to speech therapy off and on for a few years but it hasn't really helped me too much. I really want to change but am just super lazy about it honestly, which is a terrible attitude to have.

My best friend used to talk like Scooby Doo and if he's trying to be alpha male he still stutters. It hasn't hindered him at all. The thing you have to remember is almost everyone has some sort of speech impediment, whether it's a word they can't pronounce or a full on stutter. Don't let it hurt your self confidence. My friend, the scooby doo stunt double, has been on a mission and now makes $40,000 a year (which is damn good money in South Carolina).

Re: Deepest, darkest secrets you're willing to share about yourself

Back when i was in 7th grade, me and two friends of mine, used to snort chalk in the middle of class. After two or three days of doing it, almost hall of the boys in class were doing it. We did for like two weeks. Then seniors of the school (i was living in DR, and the schools have MS, and HS together) were walking around, talking about drugs, and they said that chalk had some portion of drugs in it. Thats when we all looked at each other and stopped doing it.

I just laugh about this now, but that was CRAZY!

This also happened while i was living in DR. I was around 12/13, cant remember. Me and a friend of mine, were just chilling on the balcony of my house, were you can see one of the main streets to enter the city. While we were seating there, chilling, bored, i said "Can you imagine if an accident happens right here, right now" 2,3 seconds later we hear a tire blowing up. Boom. We see a car, coming out of control. The car crashes with a car, from the other side of the lane, and a couple of more cars from each side ended up crashing with them. Around 7/8 cars ended up crashing, the last two cars got hit softly, so they were ok. But 4 of those cars got heavily hit, and 4 people went to emergency. After two or three days, someone tells me that on of the kids, who was on the car that started the accident, died. After i heard that, i felt so guilty because of what i said out of boredom, ended up killing a kid.

7/8 years have pass and i still feel somewhat guilty, even though it was pure coincidence.

I had a similar experience when I was like 14. I lived across the street from my school and was staring out the window and I thought, "I wish something cool would happen." Next thing I know there's a loud boom from the gym that I was staring at. It was a gas explosion, the janitor's kid got hurt but I don't think it was serious. It was really odd, though.

Figured I'd share one of my dumber life moments.

In 7th grade I was at an all-boys school and there was this older boy who was really ticking me off. I don't remember what he was doing but I do remember just flipping out... going up to his face and saying very quietly... "You're a n****r."

He was caucasian. I guess I had no insults left in my pocket.

Is this okay for the thread since it's nothing in depth?

I like action figures. And Playmobil castles and knights. And my wife loves Barbies. As in a fanatic. I don't go around talking about this with my friends as I see the humor in it and definitely laugh at myself, but I like to set up scenarios and act them out in my mind. I find it relaxing.

I have a huge nerd streak and feel very fortunate as a single man in his forties to have found a wife who is also a nerd. A smoking hot nerd. I can't believe my luck. I am trying to talk her into dressing up as the Baroness from GI Joe and go to one of the big comic conventions. My wife looks a lot like her.
