      Depends on the member.

Seriously, though. Most of you would perish after that.

I've got a friend with epilepsy, and I've witnessed a couple of his seizures... It's easily one of the scariest things I've ever seen.

People often make fun of people with epilepsy, if they ever had to experience what we go through, they would never make fun of us again. My seizures aren't as bad as some of the other people I've heard of. It also helps that my fiancé is a nurse.

I've only seen a seizure once in my life, Jerry Kill (Gopher football coach) had one on the sidelines during a game. It was pretty freaky. 40,000+ people at the stadium and you could have heard a pin drop.

Question about seizures: I suppose it's like anything and there are varying degrees of severity, but in general are seizures something that you just have and then can continue on with your day, or does it take a physical toll on you where you'd have to go lie down and rest?

My mom had brain cancer and suffered from seizures.
Seeing someone you love go thru one of those is easily the most frightening thing I've ever seen in my life.

That is nice your fiance is a nurse. My brother also has epilepsy and his wife is also also has a medical background. It's not specifically what she works in but it has always been so reassuring to us because they are in Baltimore and I'm the closest one from our family and my parents are a plane ride away which doesn't help nerves.

I too suffered a seizure about a month and a half ago. Scary ****.

I've never heard some make fun of someone with epilepsy though and I can assure you that conversation wouldn't go well.

I had a seizure once. I was getting blood work done. I donate blood all the time so it's usually not a big deal. But on that day I felt light headed as they were drawing the blood. Eventually my body had a seizure. It was strange cause in my mind I was talking and still aware. But in reality I was having a seizure. Only time that's ever happened to me. It was an interesting experience to say the least but not one I would want to go through on a semi regular basis.

Back about 8 years ago I worked at a convenient store. I made minimum wage and I had several bills to pay. Sometimes I didn't have enough left over for gas. When I didn't have enough money I would purposely short change people a dollar here and there til I had enough to get gas to get home and back to work. As a side note it was people who looked intoxicated or were buying beer.

I've been lucky to find a medication that works for me and as long as I have it in my bloodstream, I'm fine. If I happen to have one, I'll be fine after a few hours minus biting my tongue pretty badly.

My daughter had a seizure about a year ago when she was 1. That was the absolute worst night of my life. I had just laid her down for bed and apparently her temperature shot up and that's what caused it. I was watching TV in the living room and I just had that feeling to go check on her and I thank god that I did because I would have never known. She wasn't even sick or running a fever that day so it came out of nowhere.

The hospital tested her for epilepsy and explained everything about it to me and my wife. Luckily she doesn't have it but knowing what those who have it go through I absolutely feel for you Scott. To see my baby girl like that was so heartbreaking.

I had a pretty bad stutter when I was a child and still have one, but it's very slight and uncommon.

Yeah, there are many different types of seizures such as grand mal, petit mal, tonic clonic, simple partial, febrile, infantile, etc. Not entirely sure of how they are classed/grouped but, as you surmised, they have differing degrees of severity as well as different causes, and differing in the type of movements or or other symptoms they cause.

Once in college I was heading to the dining hall for dinner and another student came over to me and explained that he was having a simple partial seizure. It just caused him to be very anxious and had a fast heart rate. He was waiting for his girlfriend and just asked me to stay with him until she got there which I did. Other than that, I have never seen someone having a seizure or experienced one myself.

I feel for you. I used to have a very bad stutter, so I try not to make fun of the person unless in the company of friends. Then anything goes

I overcame it by training myself to not talk until I had completely gathered my thoughts (which involved a lot of opening my mouth, thinking better of it, and closing it shut again) and I don't talk at all when I'm around strangers unless I'm asked a direct question.

Huh, I don't think what I do can be called a victory...
