    Re: Oklahoma Tornado Outbreak

Looking at photos of the damage from this storm, and looking at old pictures from Hiroshima in 1945... the destruction is almost the same. There's simply nothing left of where this thing went through.

    Absolutely horrifying.

I do think its amazing to see our country band together during tragedies like this. I'd love to be able to go and help, just like I'm sure many of you would like to.

            Keep praying for everyone affected.

Yes, but I could only have so much emotional strength after I find even one tornado victim, especially a child.

It would make me think there's nothing but darkness underneath the rubble.

Why did the school not have building regulations to withstand a strong tornado? Or at least have a huge underground bunker?
You can build a bulding to withstand very high winds. You cannot build a building to withstand debris such as cars slamming into it at high speeds.

As for the bunker, I agree, but it's all about building costs.

Also, it looks like the death toll has been reduced to 24 for the time being, so that's good news.

                    Fantastic news.

Some of these pictures and such are horrifying. Hearing about the kids makes my stomach get in knots. I cannot imagine dropping a kid off at school and then never seeing them again.

Hopefully we can spare Moore for a few years. Unreal the devastation that's hit them over the years.

                      Re: Oklahoma Tornado Outbreak

When I was in sixth grade, a tornadoe came through the area and clipped part of the school, football field, and destroyed some homes within the surrounding area of the school. With state funding, it's just not possible for some of these schools to build a shelter large enough to house that many students.

Now days, our schools don't even hesitate to cancel or postpone school if there's a thread of severe weather. It wasn't like that when I was a kid, but in light of recent events and past events, it's probably for the best.

Unfortunately, it may not have helped considering the total destruction and devastation of this tornado. It's very very sad indeed

I think being at home may have been more dangerous, by the looks of things.

I suppose it was just unavoidable for this to happen. Sad.

Man, thoughts and prayers go out to everyone involved.

I hope no one on OS was in the path of this, and certainly pray for no more injuries/deaths and a speedy recovery.

It's unbelievable the power that mother nature has when she rears her ugly head. Scary stuff.

Apparently the death toll got revised WAY down?

How does that even happen? From 91 to 24. Didn't the medical examiner confirm?

                            Thank goodness though.

From what I read, they were saying that up to 91 people could be dead. They confirmed 51, but apparently some people were counted twice on accident.
