    Re: Oklahoma Tornado Outbreak

51 confirmed fatalities, according to the Oklahoma Chief Medical Examiner's Office. Of course, that number is likely to rise much more.

That picture makes me tense up and, then almost throw up.

Imagine walking out of your house in the morning having no idea you will never walk back into it. Unreal.

Don't know too much about tornadoes, but was there just one of them? I guess I'm going based off what's shown in The Day After Tomorrow, because I really don't know too much about them, or what causes them.

Sad hearing about all of the children in the schools, or really anyone who is helpless, trapped, or killed.

            Re: Oklahoma Tornado Outbreak

This tornado is currently being talk about an EF4 but the damage is much greater than the F5 tornado in 1999 in Moore. The 1999 tornado had winds in excess of 320 mph.

CNN, FOX, etc. are reporting winds in excess of 200 mph but the local meteorologist are saying this tornado had winds in excess of 300 mph.

There was debris found in Tulsa where I live and we are 100 miles away. That just shows how much power this storm had that it could throw debris that far.

The one that did all that damage was just one tornado. There were several tornadoes that touched down at some point in Oklahoma and Texas that I know of, none of the others did significant damage from what I hear.

I live in small town between Oklahoma City and Tulsa. There has been debris falling out of the sky the past two days from the tornadoes. We have been lucky to have four tornadoes go around us the past two days. These tornadoes are terrible.

Man this is terrible and it makes me feel like a real a-hole for complaining about being without power for the last four hours.

Also as someone who knows what it's like to have their hometown destroyed and having family/friends killed by a tornado, my heart really goes out to everyone in Moore tonight.

I remember not being able to get a hold of my mom and brother for hours after the Alabama tornado's two years ago. Also, constantly refreshing Facebook to hear news or see if someone I knew had passed. It was horrifying, honestly.

Honestly, I'm kind of surprised that there are only 50 people dead. Having lived in Tulsa for a while, I can tell you that many people aren't prepared for tornadoes and don't have any shelter at all. The houses there don't have basements and it can cost a lot for underground shelters. The majority of the people I knew, including me, used laundry rooms or hallways underneath the stairs as a shelter. Obviously as you can see in the pictures, anything above ground was completely torn up.

Hopefully the people of Moore were better prepared and had better shelters or else, sadly, I see the death toll going up by a good amount.

The National weather service is putting out the EF4 200 mph rating based on observations of the damage. It could go up to an EF5 after they have more data.

Local meteorologists, which are some of the best in the world I may add, said their radars were showing wind speeds up to 300 mph.

With that said, those winds could have been higher up in the atmosphere and not necessarily on the ground.

The strongest wins ever recorded on earth occurred in the May 3, 1999 Moore tornado. I will say that the damage today looks a lot worse than the 1999 tornado which is the most violent ever recorded.

These images are of complete destructions Complete neighborhoods are gone. As for my friends wife, she is now home after staying with here students until all of them found their parents.

This is from her brother on facebook:

"I am one happy and proud brother tonight for an amazing sister!!!! I just got off the phone, it was the best 6 min phone call ever. She is just now heading home. She said that it was the scariest thing she has ever went through. She said that she grabbed her little kids and laid on top of some of them. She had them all sing and pray to Jesus!!!! Her phone is going to die and she will have no power when she gets home, so she wanted me to pass on her status. She wants to thank everyone for their prayers and thoughts. She wants everyone to pray for the little ones that died in the other school and the teachers there. She has lots of friends in that school that are still missing."
