It's not like he went trying to pick a fight or anything.
    No animal deserves this.

Has nothing to do with this one cat. This is reprehensible.

Deserved better??? Come on man, I know you aren't a cat fan and that is perfectly fine, but there is no excuse for this behavior. Of course this cat and the others deserved better than to be killed.

The dog needs to be taken care of. I like NCoffey's suggestion if that happened after the first occurrence but at this point there is no other solution.

Pitts get a bad rap blah blah blah, but I say can't stand'em man... I love dogs too, but Pitts are hard for me to trust. Most of the time though the most ignorant *** people own Pitts...which is really the problem. You need to report the owner and the dog needs to be put down.

I have a 40lb mixed breed and 20lb shihzhu...the mix actually has a little Staffordshire terrier in him but is mostly hound. Jaws are the shape of a Pitt but not as big. He is the sweetest dog you'll ever meet.

Pit bulls (only 1 t ) get the bad rap, but the blame is mostly on the people who own them for not training them properly. My sisters former in-laws had a couple pit bulls (though 1 has since died) and they were both super friendly. In fact, I was over there once and the one wouldn't leave me alone, just kept wanting to snuggle up to me and give me kisses.

As for Chas's issue, I agree with everyone else that you need to call Animal control. Perhaps even get the police involved and try to get some restituion. As far as providing evidence for the incidents, did you take the most recent cat to the vet for treatment of its injuries? I'm sure the medical reports would provide clear evidence that its death was the result of a dog attack.

Let's not turn this into a referendum on pit bulls. Lots of other breeds could and have done this. Let's keep this about the unfortunate situation and not breed specifics.

In other words just keep it on-topic.

You are going to have to get some proof of the dog running around and show them the dead cat. Also tell them you witnessed the attack. All the previous stuff probably won't matter as you could always be lying without some pictures, etc.

It sucks, but it will most likely take some time and more events to get the dog taken away. If the dog escapes again, call animal control so there is record.

Tell animal control that your neighbors dog has killed a bunch of your cats. That dog needs to be handled in some capacity if the owner refuses to do anything about it. If my dog ever did such a thing I would do everything in my power to fix this. I cant believe he laughed at this situation.

You handled that way better than I could have Chase. I would have told him his dog would end up missing if I ever saw it on my property again.

I would have shot the dog when it had the cat in its mouth. Clean shoot if you ask me.

I feel horrible for the cat... Why didn't you take it to the vet and have it put down instead of suffering a slow painful death?

Re: Need Advice: Irresponsible Pet Owners.

We have a Pit Bull, he's a really sweet dog with us, but only likes dogs that he knows. I don't know if he had a bad experience as a puppy or if it's just an overprotective thing or what. Some of our neighbors let their dogs rome around unsupervised and I know that if he see's the in our yard that he wouldn't like it. In my opinion, since they let their dogs do whatever they want, then it's my responsibility to keep their dogs along with my dog safe. When he's outside he's in our back yard (which is fenced). If he ever got to another dog and killed it (which he's 13 now so I honestly don't think he could), as much as I love him, I would have to have him put down myself.

As for your problem Chase, I would go ahead and call animal control, especially if this guy knows about all of the attacks. Enough is enough.

A lot of breeds are like that. If something comes into their yard, they will attack, even if it is another dog. My parents have Dachshunds and they were bred to kill badgers, so you know they are tough killers if they can kill a badger inside its own hole. They aren't mean to other dogs, but they do bark if other dogs are walking by on the sidewalk. They have also attacked opossums and killed a baby one that lived near part of my parents property.

This made me mad as hell just reading it. How could a neighbor be so ignorant? If my dog had ever killed another animal I would feel terrible, let alone someone else's pets. I would have called animal control after the first cat, but my recommendation is still the same. Call animal control, that dog needs to be put down. He is a danger to all animals unfortunately.

I am not an animal love at all, but you have been more patient about it than I would be. Call animal control. If they won't do anything this time, the next time the dog is in the yard, try to catch it, call animal control and show them that the dog keeps coming over. Just keep calling until they do something. What if they next time it's a person the dog attacks?

Just reading about how nonchalant the guy has been about this situation is infuriating. What an *******.

Man, people not taking care of and being lazy with their pets is a major, major gear grinder to me. I hate seeing pets using my yard for a bathroom - I can only imagine how I would feel if they were attacking my own pets.

I would have been over there after the first one and I wouldn't have gone back to him with a live dog either.

                              It's really not that simple.

He wouldn't let anyone near him for the two days and stayed hidden. I'm surprised I found him when I did, I didn't see him for the two days following the attack.

I live in a more rural area outside of Birmingham. The closest vet open would be close to, if not more than an hour away.

I wouldn't call animal control yet. They will likely just put the dog down. This isn't the dogs fault it's the owners fault. Have a serious talk with your neighbor about this. Sounds like he isn't taking it serious and I think partly because you haven't made a big enough deal about it(just my assumption here.. Correct me I'm wrong).
