Its not like the dog is completely innocent. It did attempt to eat 4 cats.

Yes but it's the owners irresponsibility that led to it. A lot of dogs hate cats. My uncle has one that has killed i think 2 cats before(both were his though). But apart from that he's a good dog. Sounds like this pit bull is too. As long as he's not hurting children or something I don't think he deserves to be put down. The owner simply needs to step up or not own a dog.

I am a huge dog lover but I'd put the dog down based on the owner's lack of sympathy towards the killings.

If the owner showed a shred of concern it would be a different story.

I hope your uncle's dog doesnt kill any (more) pets in that neighborhood.

I understand pets are still animals. Dogs and cats will still get into it and sometimes there may be a casualty, but c'mon...4 cats? 3 instances? This is a little more than an owner's negligence and irresponsibility to keep their pet on their property at this point.

I'd be willing to bet a lot more dogs than you would think would kill a cat if they had the opportunity to do it, especially if they weren't raised around them. My parents have 2 german shorthairs, great hunting dogs, and great around kids and other animals...but when they get into hunting mode they will go after anything as if it were prey. Rabbits, racoons, squirrels, and if a stray farm cat was out in the field...they would attempt to catch and kill it.

My parents keep a very close eye on the dogs around the house, for this is exact reason...even though they are really good dogs normally, if they get in the right frame of mind they will do things they wouldn't normally do. This sounds to me like an owner problem more so than a dog problem...unfortunately the dog may end up taking the rap.

                Sorry man, but bull****.

This dog has attacked and killed 4 cats. What's to say that one day, it decides to lose its **** and attacks a child or an adult? Then is it still the owner's fault?

I do think it's the owner's fault that if he knew the dog didn't like cats and was killing him, he should have built a fence. The dog isn't fit for society if it kills EVERY cat it sees.

Wonder how many other people have lost a pet to this dog.

The dog needs the needle, plain and simple.

The owner also needs to be banned from owning a dog ever again, too.

The owner doesn't give a crap...The dog will continue attacking animals and probably people eventually.

Ideally it'd go to a home/rescue that can try to save it, but it needs to be somewhere other than that environment.

I am seriously livid that this dog has killed 4 kittens. We have 2 dogs and 3 cats and I'd be beyond mad if some neighbor dog ate one of my animals. You'd have to hold me back from kicking the ish out of that guy. Pets are like family to us. Your neighbor is irresponsible and shouldn't own animals IMO.

Just because a dog kills cats doesnt mean he's going to start attacking humans....

Chase said in the OP he's friendly towards humans.

I really don't think you guys realize how many dogs would attack/kill a cat if given the chance. Doesn't mean there's something mentally wrong with them and they're all of the sudden going to attack a person.

I actually agree with this. I think the blame falls completely on the owners of the dog.

During the entire situation, the dog never showed any anger or aggression towards me. I even had him by the collar and he just stared at me funny like he wasn't doing anything wrong.

My dad went to talk to them today, since he saw the woman's car back home. She told him that they were getting seperated and that she was packing up her **** and moving to Mississippi permanently and he was staying here. I get the feeling she's taking the dogs with her.

That sort of throws a wrench into this whole thing.

However, I have seen on several occasions where a person or child has gotten bit by a dog while trying to protect and hold their cat or smaller dog. Might be friendly towards people but this could very well happen...

That's a little different than just randomly walking by a human and attacking them.

Hell, trying to break up a fight between two cats is a bad idea.

True but these dogs that did this were considered very "people friendly" too by their owners. I have big dogs and they have NEVER had any tendencies to bite other animals or people.

Dogs and cats attacking each other sure - that happens all the time, but dogs tearing up kittens and chomping down on bigger cats isn't something I'd classify as normal dog behavior or something most dogs would do "if given the chance."

Honestly, I've seen more dogs and cats get along than I have seen them going to hell on each other.
