No way Lundqvist counts in this discussion. He's a better goalie than Ryan Miller but Miller has *way* less in front of him.

          That's the joke.

If I actually believed Martinez was a superstar and didn't have any talent around him at Nebraska whatsoever, I'd be in an asylum.

I was thinking about Felix. He's got nobody. At least Wright has Harvey and Harvey has Wright. At least Stanton has Fernandez and Fernandez has Stanton.

Felix has been arguably the best pitcher in the league for what, the last four years? Guy has NOTHING around him.

And I was thinking about Peterson but Jared Allen is one of the best defensive players in the league so I don't know if he's *as* alone as some of the others suggested. Though, 2 guys out of 53 is nothing.
David Wright won't have Matt Harvey next season so I'm not sure how that's gonna look. Zack Wheeler could have his break out season but it's not guaranteed by any means.

As for guys these days, you know it's kind of hard to really think of someone in the classic "alone" category other than Miller at this point in time. The last truly classic "alone" superstar would be LeBron with the Cavs.

A good hockey example would be Rick Nash who basically burned up his best years playing with nobodies in Columbus before going to NYR.

Kobe? Apart from Gasol what other starting caliber players are on the team?

Forgot about Allen Iverson. That guy really had nothing and went to the finals.

It was Mutombo's last good year in his career, so some may argue that.

Adrian Peterson is 100% the reason the Vikings made the playoffs last season. 100%.

Pau Gasol with the current Lakers' active roster.

Though Gasol isn't really a superstar at this point...
