    Missing Malaysian Plane

Anyone else find this story strange?

I just can't fathom an explanation as to how a gigantic airplane can disappear? I'm not an aviation expert, but I would think that they would have GPS or constant communication with the airplane once it was in mid-air? How does it just disappear?

Then I read that 2 passports were stolen and shown to have boarded the flight.

What's even odd? They have not found anything related to the airplane anywhere they have searched. You would think smoke, or fire, or something in the ocean would show signs of the airplane, but nothing.

So in all honestly, what do you think this could be?

    Crash? UFO? Bermuda Triangle?

Obviously, the most plausible explanation is either aliens or ghosts.

      Re: Missing Malaysian Plane

I started to post about this in the WTF thread since it's so strange.

I'm holding out hope - for the people on the plane - that maybe it was hijacked and they managed to land somewhere. But you would think somebody would whip out a cell phone and send a text or make a call.

What about satellite or thermal? I mean can't they like... "rewind the tape" and just track what that plane was doing at those specific coordinates? I know there could have been cloud coverage, yada-yada. I just thought we had the right kind of technology. Or as shrugknight said, GPS or something.

As everyone else is mentioning, it's just bizarre. I was gone all Saturday and only heard mention of it from my parents. I was actually curious this morning as to why I still hadn't seen the story on OS (until right now). I haven't read much about it, only that they've searched and haven't found anything in connection to the plane.

          Just too, too strange.

It took them about 2 years to find and recover the black boxes for that Air France crash in the Atlantic and even longer to figure out what happened. So, no, they can't just "rewind the tape".

                  Teaming up with Ms. Earhart.

All jokes aside, I was reading more articles about it, and they explain that if a plane ever crashes in the ocean, the black box, that is in all aircraft, sends out a pinger signal that allows them to locate the box.

It also has the GPS signal prior to the plane crashing. So in reality, they should known where this plane is, or at least a general location.

The fact that it disappeared off radar, and there has been no response from the plane itself, is really bizarre.

If those 2 stolen passports are really terrorists, then they must be very skilled to disable the black box, and any time of communication the plane has with authorities.

If it crashed into the ocean, there would be some sort of debris floating.

It's not like it dove into the ocean fully impact and just floated down to the bottom of the ocean undamaged.

                    Re: Missing Malaysian Plane

I think it crashed, but how is there not obvious wreckage, at least one piece?

My other idea/tin foil hat thought is that somehow they got hijacked and turned off the transmitter, but you gotta think that various countries defense radar would have seen it.

I dunno, just seems really odd/crazy.

I don't think that the black box tracking system failing would be unprecedented. Perhaps it could have been highjacked and landed somewhere, but that doesn't explain no land radars picking it up. I'm sure there are some colorful theories already making the rounds. Chances are they're simply looking in the wrong spot.

The plane could have gone off course. Joking aside, but on 'Lost' the plane was 1,000 miles off course when it crashed so all the searches were done in the wrong place.

For the plane to just disappear off the radar is odd. Which leads me to believe there was some sort of rapid decompression that caused this, we'll know more if the "four corners" of the plane are found in the same spot or not.

The odd thing about the terrorism angle is that some group almost always takes credit for it, no one has. Even if it was terrorism, it could take years to find out if it was terrorism which kind of defeats the purpose of blowing up a plane. I just find it really odd that there has been literally no trace of any wreckage. With the amount of boats, planes, and satellites looking for this thing, its getting more bizarre by the hour.
