Don't ask a bunch of girls at once, but try and have backup plans if you ask a girl and they're taken or say no. If you get rejected, don't dwell on it and get right back up and ask someone else.

And honestly, it would be cool to have a creative way to ask a girl, but if you aren't totally confident it won't matter. Asking her confidently in a boring way is better than being a nervous wreck with a creative plan.

Don't go to prom. No pressure that way.

Just skip the prom and go straight to the hotel afterparty

Or go to prom and do both, it's a great experience and you shouldn't miss out on it.

The thing I've hated about rejections in my life (not just girls, but anything) is nobody really has the nerve to simply say "No," either. They put you down without making you feel bad by making something else up along the way. "Oh, I have somewhere else to be that night" or whatever the hell their excuse is.

If you ever get rejected like this and you catch them lying, rub it in their faces and treat them like dirt. They deserve to feel bad about not making you feel bad by being honest.

I don't really know where this leads to good advice about asking a girl to prom, though...

Needless to say, I was pissed. Seriously, who the hell does that kind of thing? (Spoiler alert: The answer is women.)

And, clemson, when we say "Ask multiple people," I don't think we mean just asking anyone and everyone you see. I think we mean something more like this: find a girl you want to go with, ask her and then if she says no, try to find someone else. Nothing too difficult.
I had the lying thing happen to me when I asked one of my friends to prom. She made up some story about her having a racist grandad that wouldn't find it acceptable. This despite me already knowing half her friends who used to go over to her place all the time were black. Kinda changed how I thought about her, but I just moved on to the next one anyway.

She was actually choice 4 on my list anyway I think. Choice one disappeared from school halfway through the semester. I got beat to the punch on choice two (some of you OT guys have actually seen her but obviously didn't know that before this post). Choice three just didn't go to prom. Choice five worked out though. Didn't go as well as I'd wanted, but still was a pretty good time.

Re: My prom in one year (junior)

My Junior prom asking went as well as I planned, but I found right when the dance started that my date was super religious and was uncomfortable with dancing unless it was to slow songs. It wasn't the best experience but now she's one of the best friends I've ever had.

Senior year, the first three girls I knew and wanted to ask were taken, so I had to jump out of my comfort zone and ask a girl I didn't know very well. It turns out I had more fun with her than any of the other girls had with their dates.

You gotta remember, rejection happens and it's not the worst thing ever. If you just assume someone won't go with you, you'll never actually know. You'll never grow as a person until you take some risks and at your age, asking a girl to prom is a great way to start and build the confidence you'll need for the rest of your life.

That took a strange turn. If I may ask, what about her religion made her uncomfortable with regular dancing, but okay with slow dancing? I was thinking it'd be the other way around, unless your school's non-slow dancing consists of two people grinding one another's privates to a pulp.

Well I'm not sure how dancing is at other high schools currently, but pretty much all it was here was grinding and she wasn't comfortable with that. For the past year or two she's been opening to the idea that she can have fun (like grinding along with a ton of other things) without jeopardizing her beliefs.

Welp, I am officially old. We definitely were not allowed to do that at our school. And even if we were, as a high schooler I don't know if I could handle an all-grind school dance. I don't blame her for not being comfortable with that.

A tad off topic, but I don't consider that type of... movement?... to be "dancing," frankly.

Our school cracked down on it my sophomore year, but no one went to the dances after that so they didn't really have a choice to stop them. My first dance was Junior prom so I really have no idea how it was before that.

Honestly, calling grinding dancing is an insult to dancing. It's still a good time regardless of whatever you call it.
