I was in Mountain Time two weeks ago and it was cool. 1pm NHL playoff games starting at 11am was interesting.

In Virginia now. Leesburg? I know we got some VA peeps here. Recognized some towns/cities from locations here.

Maryland/VA seems like a decent place to settle. It's nice being 20 minutes from Philly, 2 hrs from NY, 1 from Baltimore buttttt this place could be cool. Scouting it out...

Alaska time zone was weird. You could watch MNF and it would end like at 8 and games start really early on Sunday.

VA's nice but you gotta be careful about the cost of living in some of those areas up in Northern VA. I had a friend who lived in Ashburn (right next to Leesburg) and he was renting a bedroom in a 3 BR townhouse (that he had to share with his landlord) at $750/mo.

Is it not fair to blame Bettman more for not marketing the league and its players more? I don't recall the last time I saw a commercial for hockey and I only watch sports primarily...putting it on a second tier channel (NBC Sports) is such an injustice.

Unfortunately for NHL, it won't get to be on a main channel often. Even if NHL had a deal with ESPN, you know games would be on ESPN2 or something instead. Even the world cup of hockey which is gonna be on ESPN, I highly doubt any non USA games will be on ESPN(Canada,Russia,Sweden will be on ESPN2,rest of countries on ESPN3 probably)

NHL needs to do better job with TV scheduling. Saturday is the big night for hockey in Canada, so why not have at least 3 Canadian teams play on Saturday(one in afternoon,one in evening,one at night)? Right now they just have an evening game(almost always Toronto) and a night game(featuring one of the western teams). Spread it out more and have 3 games saturday all day!

And in USA, they need to have some sort of deal where there's at least 1 game a week on NBC. And don't make it like NBA where just a few teams get those games. Instead of the usual Boston,Pittsburgh,Chicago,New York stuff they seem to do, why not feature other teams like Tampa,Anaheim,St.Louis?

On the topic of hockey,thought I'd ask it here just as a general sports question. Guy at Rangers-Lightning game today said he paid $4500 for his ticket. The reporter said tickets for the same section were going for around $19,000 on other sites. The guy said he's happy that he spent that money on the ticket(and wouldn't have wanted to sell it).

So that brings up the question I'd ask...

Lets say it's final game of conference finals(of whatever your fave teams sport is) and you bought tickets for a price like $4500. If you had a chance to sell it for a price like $19,000...would you?


Me at least,I would. As much as I'd like to be there in person,making a profit of like $15,000 just like that...I'd go for it. Maybe even just buy cheaper seats for like $5000 or something if possible. $10,000+ profit just for downgrading your seats,that'd be worth it too. Or even just use some of that $15,000 on tickets for the finals if your team ends up making it.

Am I getting cash for it? I'd take a $15,000 non taxed profit in a heartbeat. I love my sports teams, but that is a ton of money.

To be fair,the media does have alot to do with that. Supposedly ESPN barely bothers to report on hockey during their highlights? I know ESPN doesn't air hockey,but they should at least be showing the highlights like they would NBA,NFL,MLB. Even now,you hear more NFL talk during offseason when nothing is happening, than NHL talk during stanley cup playoffs.

Maybe this should go in uncommon opinions thread but...(just my opinion,read/bash as you wish)

I feel like for the most part, USA really only cares about the sports they're good at. Do you see Tennis or Soccer getting LOTS of coverage in USA? Not as much as it should, cause none of the best players in tennis(at least on mens side) are from USA, and USA isn't one of the best countries in soccer either.

But you'll see golf and nascar seemingly more popular in USA.

Even in hockey USA is slipping alot. Russia and Sweden are overtaking USA in the 2-3 spots in the world and these other countries like Czech,Finland are developing the younger stars(which is why these countries are doing better than USA at these under 20 and under 18 tourneys).

You pay zero attention to golf if you think what you just said about it to be true.

I see golf stuff on a main USA channel(NBC I believe) on Sunday afternoon once a month at least.

I urge you to check the world rankings. You might be surprised to see that American's are from from dominant in the overall field of golf.

Saturday and Sunday the networks cover golf. Until they start thier coverage (Usually 2 or 3pm) The Golf Channel covers the tournament.

And on a slightly lesser note, The Players', PGA Championship, and The Open (British Open) all get decent air time as well. And occasionally the Ryder Cup.
