Re: Off Topic 2015
It would've been a massive nightmare for the next nine years in this city. For all of the reasons you listed above, plus the fact that taxpayers would've had to cover the overrun costs (Thank you, Mayor Walsh, for not agreeing with that) and the last time this city tried a massive undertaking it failed miserably.
Regardless, a trip to the Olympics would be cool. My uncle wanted to go to London but he said the prices were insane.

Re: Off Topic 2015
I thought that was the plan was to make a stadium over by the Harbor that Kraft would use as his soccer stadium. And depending on the size I don't know if it would be too big something like 30,000 would be good, IMO, because it would be in Boston. And they will get more fans than they do now just because of that.Comment

Yea that's the only reason I wanted the Olympics in Boston because it's a once in a lifetime possibility to be able to attend the events.Comment

Olympic Stadium has to sit a lot more than 30K. You ever watch the opening/closing ceremonies and track & field? That's were the Revolution would be stuck playing. That 25-30K stadium by the Harbor would not be built. Would take Kraft off the hook to build a proper MLS stadium (preferably by the harbor as you mentioned).Comment

Re: Off Topic 2015
It's kinda overrated to host that type of event coming from a cost perspective. Look how many building are abandoned that were used just for the Olympics.MLB: Texas Rangers
Soccer: FC Dallas, Fleetwood Town
NCAA: SMU, UTA
NFL: Dallas Cowboys
NHL: Dallas Stars
NBA: Dallas Mavericks

Re: Off Topic 2015
Depends really. When Chicago tried for a bid, they tore down most of the projects and low income housing. They built millennium park and dozens of condo buildings. Both are heavily used today.Comment

Chicago didn't get the bid so they didn't already build random stadiums that are really good for one or 2 events that wouldn't get used again.MLB: Texas Rangers

Re: Off Topic 2015
A discussion that happened here recently has led me to the realization that I've become a "regular" at the bar down the road. Not quite a Cheers situation, but the bartenders know to give us the bottle caps from our Natty Bohs, the bouncer hits us up on Facebook to see if we're coming by or tell us a live band is playing, and the pool tables being re-felted has become newsworthy in my life. It's kinda disturbing.Comment

Olympics are always a catastrophic economic drain. I'd be jumping for joy if I were them.Comment

Bit of info on the Sochi olympics last year.
The Sochi Games became the first profitable Olympic Games in a decade, surpassing spending by $22 million, says Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Kozak.
The Sochi Games became the first profitable Olympic Games in a decade, surpassing spending by $22 million, says Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Kozak.
According to the head of the Sochi 2014 Organizing Committee Dmitry Chernyshenko, the operating profit on the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Sochi, that includes the property which was transferred to sports development in the country, totals around $140 million.
The whole Sochi Olympic Games cost $6 billion, of which $2.7 billion came from central government, the remainder was financed by private companies.Originally posted by Gibson88Anyone who asked for an ETA is not being Master of their Domain.

Re: Off Topic 2015
Yea it's the same with all of these publicly financed stadiums. The teams make the citizens so much for these stadiums and by the time these stadiums are fully paid off the team has been out that stadium for years. I took a sports economics class in my last semester at college and some of the stuff amazed me. Like this Olympics stuff, the Super Bowl, etc. And how most of the time these events actually cost more money than they make. One would think that all of the business coming into the state/city would make up for all of the expenses that comes along with these events.Comment
