I used to drink one to two 2Ls of soda a week...

Now I'm drinking water, OJ and apple juice all the time; not because I necessarily have to (although I love apple juice), it's because soda is getting too expensive. I enjoy drinking apple juice so if I can buy a gallon of it for $3.50, that's like $5-6 worth of soda (3.79L / gallon).

Not that anybody cares but the OJ is for the "vitamin D" on the label that likely is very miniscule but nonetheless makes me feel like I'm being healthier.

It's not my cup of tea. I've been to Churchill Downs twice in my life, well three times when my daughter go to tour it (no racing) for a trip.


I've sit in Millionaires Row once for live racing and was in the infield for the Derby. I went the first time because it was a party for Spaulding University where my ex attended and I went to the Derby because I always wanted to experience the infield.

I really don't care for horse racing and don't care to bet on them.

It's hard to say. The entire experience is just a blast. I do like betting on horses and learned to read the race form so at least I'm just not making random guesses and it's just a fun event to go to.


That said, I totally understand those that have no need for it and don't enjoy it or even those that don't get why anyone would like it.

I was in that camp myself until I went to my first race.

Didn't know there were any other horse bettors here. I usually do some sort of simulcasting or go to Prairie Meadows almost every weekend. I didn't get into it until after I moved away from the Mid Atlantic or I would have been to Aqueduct, Belmont, Parx, Delaware Park, and Pimlico by now. I probably have a good 2000 pages in daily racing forms.

Didn't know there were any other horse bettors here. I usually do some sort of simulcasting or go to Prairie Meadows almost every weekend. I didn't get into it until after I moved away from the Mid Atlantic or I would have been to Aqueduct, Belmont, Parx, Delaware Park, and Pimlico by now. I probably have a good 2000 pages in daily racing forms.

Used to bet a lot more until our last OTB closed here a little over a year ago. The casino in Pittsburgh doesn't host racing events or take bets and the one that I'm going to this Saturday for the derby is close but still about 25 mins away.

Hey! I know exactly where that is... probably the only other person on this site who's even heard of it, too. Anyhow, I love the Derby, and I don't even bet. I grew up with horses, showed them in 4-H, that kind of thing, so I've always loved watching horse races. They're extremely athletic creatures and watching them compete in the same manner as we as humans do is kind of cool. Sort of a dumb sentiment, maybe, but that's what I love about the Derby (and the entirety of the Triple Crown.)
