Re: Off Topic 2015
So I just graduated college and I've been at my "real job" for just about a month now. It's a big company so we have offices in several cities across the country.
One of the women on my team (in a different city) is getting married and they're throwing a sursprise wedding shower for her next week, so we had an e-mail going around today if people wanted to sign a card and/or give money.
Now I've only talked to this person once or twice and that was over conference calls. Should I feel obligated to send a (cash) gift? If I do decide to give her some money, how much is an appropriate amount? I'm sure these are probably stupid questions, but I'm 22 and very new to this entire situation and I have no idea what the norms are in this scenario.Spoiler
+1 to anyone who gets that.
But really, I wouldn't give any money. If you feel pressured I wouldn't do any more than $10. Hell my 7 person team I've worked with for 2 years gets our manager a present every year and we don't even do more than $20 a person.Comment

Re: Off Topic 2015
Yeah, two weeks into a job I'm not giving anything. My work is terrible about stuff like that. They're basically a bigger version of high school and if you're in the right clique, then they will throw a wedding/baby shower at work, but they will only do it for a select few.
For baby showers if it's either someone me or my wife work closely with or someone who I think could really use the help the we will give. For Weddings (assuming they're having a big wedding) my rule of thumb is "If I'm not invited to the wedding, I'm not giving $$$." With that said even if I am invited to the wedding, I'm not going to go. I don't get down with "work friends" like that.My 2K17 Boston Celtics MyLeague

At least in my office, they just send around a card with an envelope, so no one knows if you put money in or not. Sign the card and do what you want about the money. If you set the expectation early on that you aren't too into the gift things, people will generally not bother you about it. And if someone genuinely cares that you didn't put 5 bucks in, **** 'em, they're not worth your time anyway.Comment

I won't sign a card if I don't know the person.

Just sharing to expose this ****ing ******* - here is the description from the video...
I am disabled due to kidney failure, and recently I had open heart surgery. It seems like every time I try to find parking in front of Trader Joes (Irvine, CA), some ******* is illegally parked in the disabled spots. Today, while looking for parking, I saw a lady park in the disabled spot, jump out of her car, and run into the store. I grabbed my phone and waited. 5 minutes later, she came out of the store and I began recording. Sorry for the vertical filming. I originally had no intention of posting this, but it turned out really good.

I got to go see the President give a speech today. It was awesome. No matter which side of the aisle you're on there's something undeniably cool about getting to see a sitting President in person like that. And to see all the people come out and wait in the interminably long line to see it, that was cool. It was just an awesome day.Member: OS Uni Snob Association | Twitter: @MyNameIsJesseG | #WT4M | #WatchTheWorldBurn

Was your girl with you? 'Cause some girls like the Patriotic sex. Considering your recent posting history I'm guess only two of the three US colors are going to be around this weekend.
