+1 to anyone who gets that.

But really, I wouldn't give any money. If you feel pressured I wouldn't do any more than $10. Hell my 7 person team I've worked with for 2 years gets our manager a present every year and we don't even do more than $20 a person.

Yeah, two weeks into a job I'm not giving anything. My work is terrible about stuff like that. They're basically a bigger version of high school and if you're in the right clique, then they will throw a wedding/baby shower at work, but they will only do it for a select few.

For baby showers if it's either someone me or my wife work closely with or someone who I think could really use the help the we will give. For Weddings (assuming they're having a big wedding) my rule of thumb is "If I'm not invited to the wedding, I'm not giving $$$." With that said even if I am invited to the wedding, I'm not going to go. I don't get down with "work friends" like that.

This is just the beginning, lol.

At least in my office, they just send around a card with an envelope, so no one knows if you put money in or not. Sign the card and do what you want about the money. If you set the expectation early on that you aren't too into the gift things, people will generally not bother you about it. And if someone genuinely cares that you didn't put 5 bucks in, **** 'em, they're not worth your time anyway.

Just sharing to expose this ****ing ******* - here is the description from the video...

I am disabled due to kidney failure, and recently I had open heart surgery. It seems like every time I try to find parking in front of Trader Joes (Irvine, CA), some ******* is illegally parked in the disabled spots. Today, while looking for parking, I saw a lady park in the disabled spot, jump out of her car, and run into the store. I grabbed my phone and waited. 5 minutes later, she came out of the store and I began recording. Sorry for the vertical filming. I originally had no intention of posting this, but it turned out really good.

I got to go see the President give a speech today. It was awesome. No matter which side of the aisle you're on there's something undeniably cool about getting to see a sitting President in person like that. And to see all the people come out and wait in the interminably long line to see it, that was cool. It was just an awesome day.
