Sounds like your Christmas plans are shaping up nicely.

Here's my premature thank you. LOL. I'm trying to keep my mouth shut but it's hard!

But the actual congrats are in order for you this holiday season, my friend. I know you've been through some stuff from past threads here, so I can't imagine how much more extra special your belated Christmas gift will be.

Seriously, just reading this thread has got me all holiday'ed up. Yes, I'm listening to Christmas music. It's my new age Christmas jams, but holiday themed regardless! https://open.spotify.com/album/63J37R8ysZjLGpXMsJhRh3

      Re: Christmas 2015

Little upset about Christmas this year. My wife has to work Christmas Eve from 3-7 and then again Christmas morning 7-3. She is a nurse so unfortunately it is just the luck of the draw. She has to work all day Thanksgiving too.

Really don't want to make my son wait all day to open his presents but I also don't want to do it with my wife not home. It is my daughter's first Christmas too.

My wife and I usually have a Christmas Eve tradition of watching The Polar Express on Blu-ray. That is probably out this year too.

Just not feeling in the holiday spirit much because of this. Maybe when I decorate the house for Christmas after Thanksgiving I will feel better.

I did buy my son's big gift already though. A big Hot Wheels Ultimate Garage. Thing looks pretty sweet.

That's sucks about your wife's shifts over the holidays. It definitely must be tough. Maybe, you guys can wake up early and watch your son unwrap his big gift together (you guys can play it all day together) and have breakfast together, then when she gets home you can open presents together as a family and have dinner when she gets home. Just a suggestion. Hope it helps.
I am the lesson after the fall.

That could be a possibility. She has to be in at 7 so she usually wakes up at 5:15 and then leaves the house by 6:30. I will probably be taking my kids to visit grandparents during the day as well.

One thing I can say about her shift on Christmas Day is that at least it isn't her normal 12 hour shift.

One of my fave christmas presents that I can remember was probably:

I have it stored away somewhere. I still remember playing with them, not even as power rangers, just pretending they were WWF action figures(since those power ranger toys had arms/legs that could move and bend easily,so you could move them to do actual wrestling moves, even submission holds too).

              Other fave gifts were:

Also, start traditions of your own and carry them throughout your life.

              Just some suggestions.
It's not that people need reminders, it's that people just start moving on with other parts of life. People planning vacations, having other priorities ahead of this, moving further away,so it's harder to get everyone in same location at once. Everyone obviously knows how big/important this stuff is, but just can't make time for things as much as before.

I still do traditions regardless of how many people take part in it, if others want to join in,then great.

This year we are having the Christmas stuff at my house. My mom LOVES Christmas and the decorating that goes with it. My living room floor is full of Christmas decorations. I love the holiday season as well, but I'm not a fan of having to re-pack all that stuff back up and store somewhere. I prefer the KISS method (keep it simple, stupid)

I love taking everything down at the end of the season. It makes the house feel huge. The amount of storage space needed is growing every year.

What do people say is best version/cover of some of the notable holiday songs? Like ones that have many people doing versions of it,but 1 or 2 stand out as the best.

                    Specifically:
                    Carol of the bells
We wish you a merry Christmas
                    Deck the halls
                    Last Christmas
                    Silent Night
Do you hear what i hear
                    Jingle bells

Back when I had to clear space for the tree, that was the only good part about taking it down, was all the space that ended up being there afterwards.

Taking it out and putting it back is so much work, cause it's usually buried in a place that's untouched for the 11 months.

For the classics, my favourite artists are Bing Crosby and Andy Williams. For a more contemporary artist list for these songs I recommend Whitney Houston, The Carpenters and Amy Grant.

A childhood favourite that played in my household is Christmas with BONEY M. Absolutely the sound of Christmas for me.

I would like to throw Extreme into the mix, best Xmas with words song that regards the true meaning of Christmas. I think I throw this into the thread every year.

Hopefully, Mike won't mind the video.

I'm not that much into tradition but Christmas is THE exception...

Our entire family goes to a Moravian love feast every Christmas eve; basically, it's a church service with singing, a sermon, coffee & bread then a candle light song at the end. It's always puts me in the Christmas mood when I walk out of the service and it's dark and cold, yet I see tons of green/red decorations everywhere.

Our family (about 20 of us after counting spouses and children) has a HUGE meal afterwards with a kitchen full of food. After the love feast, my tongue craves honey baked ham so bad, it's pitiful.

We all stay the night at my parents house for Christmas morning...usually I'm up until 3-4am putting some stupid contraption together for my sisters' kids that they'll never use after Christmas. Fortunately, I use that as blackmail later in the year.

The kids wake everybody up the next morning so we convene in the living room where my father reads the Christmas story...then we watch the kids one by one open their gifts. We've been doing that the past 5 years so instead of having everybody open it them all at once, each kid has their own time -- I love watching my family open all their presents and a look of shock or exciting just overwhelm them. It makes the price of the gift worthwhile.

We try, as much as possible, to enjoy Christmas eve/day...it's an opportunity to spend time with my family and I make an effort to cherish it -- I never know when it may be last.
