    Re: 2016 FITNESS CHALLENGE

My girlfriend bought me Fitbit Surge. I've been wanting one for a long time, but just haven't felt the need to spend the money on it just yet. I guess she remembered me mentioning it at some point.

Anyways... I'm really digging it so far. I'll miss my daily wear (Nixon "The Unit") on my arm, but I'm curious to see just how accurate these things are.

So i'm trying to eat better this month for health reasons as well as wallet. I've spent near a grand eating out since November which resulted in 20 pounds of crappy weight.

Went to the grocery store and picked up good stuff. Instead of stopping at the vending machine, i've started to bring a mix of nuts which has been helping with the munchy cravings.

Also went to a class at the gym the other day instead of doing my own thing. It was refreshing to see just how weak my body is despite looking semi decent. Think i'm going to aim for 2 classes a week going forward. The class helped me to remember some moves I had forgotten in the abyss of not working out.

Keep up the good work fellas.

I started getting massages which are awesome. I was going to a chiropractor last year around this time and getting adjustments but I stopped going. They were helping.

I'm gonna start a detox tomorrow and just drink green juices, coconut water and water. I haven't done it in awhile so the next couple days are gonna be rough. Gonna try to do 7 to 10 days and see how it goes.

My arthritis is almost gone and my psoriasis has improved a lot so I'm gonna do this fast and really kick this disease ***.

So I'm going to officially start my cutting this Monday. When doing a lower calorie intake, should I give up beer for a while or is it possible to limit myself to a day or two a week?

From experience, if it fits within your total calorie range it's fine, but tbh, you're going to have a hard time fitting a beer into your diet during a cut. I don't know what portion you're talking about, but if it's a bottle I would have needed the 130-150 calories (+fibre) for a 1/3 cup of oatmeal, or if we're talking a pint I would have needed that for a 2-3 egg omlette with mushrooms and spinach to help maintain my lifting/running performance. The nutrition you're sacrificing for a beer during a cut isn't worth it.

I'd suggest cutting out the alcohol and processed carbs/sugars until you've changed your body composition enough to be more metabolically inefficient. Once you drop the bf% and increase lean mass don't sweat the beer here or there, or even a big night out, but sacrifice a bit and put the work in to build the foundation for that future enjoyment.

I most certainly appreciate the advice everyone has given me. Super Bowl Sunday will be my last beers for a while.

Are the workouts designed to be done along with your normal routine, or by themselves?

I don't know if I should just do maybe 3 times a week, or try to manage the entire schedule.
I've been doing it over a year and still haven't really figured that out lol Lately I've been lifting 4 days a week, doing DDP twice just mixing up the workouts, and 1 complete day off. I've also been doing the DDP core workout on most lifting days.

It's working well I think. I was just following the schedule for awhile, and over time it was just too much with lifting too. If not because of fatigue just time.

Wonder if there are any 20 minute quickie Yoga routines.

Seems like adding something like that would be good in the mornings, to loosen up, and get the day going. Add some spice the mobility, and stretch work.

I know why I gained 20 lbs last year and since Thanksgiving, I've taken almost 10 of those off.

I signed up for a 12 week challenge at the gym and I think it will pay off and it was only 20 bucks.

I had a consultation with a trainer, I told her I go to the gym early in the morning, come home and have breakfast. She said, stop, that needs to change. I am low on iron, so, I take a iron tablet that I need to allow an hour to pass before I put food in my belly. (Suppose to be 2 hrs, but I cut that in half) She said it's a no wonder you haven't passed out with low blood sugar levels. Eat breakfast before you get here. She asked what I have for breakfast. I told her usually white egg omelets with veggies and a slice of toast and the other days weight control oatmeal. She said, stop, start using the rolled oats oatmeal instead of the processed oatmeal.

Yesterday I went in for a training session on the weights. We worked on legs, tri's and biceps and between the leg press and leg extension, she asked me if I pushed hard on workout days. Not really, I said, I go through my sets with 12 reps and once I'm finished, off to the treadmill. Before this, I weighed in the first week and gained 2 lbs.(weighed in today at WW and lost 2.4 for the week) She started out with lighter weight and then would increase the weights and keep the same reps at 15. Within 10 minutes, I was sweating and huffing and puffing. At the end, she told me to try giving up dairy because of the natural and added sugars.

All in all, I'm happy as hell she pushed me, now I know what I need to do to take off the needed weight. I was just going through the motions before. Just like in life itself, you need to push it to the limit in some areas.

(PS-Doesn't hurt she is easy on the eyes)

From a fan of beer, I can sympathize.

Switch to wine, more natural sugars.

That's my excuse and I'm staying with it.

Most of the DDP workouts are 25-30 minutes, and they actually have a really short one, maybe 10 minutes, that's meant for waking up.

Red Hot Core (RHC) for my Tuesday workout was 15 minutes. Fat Burn Classic which was for Wednesday, was 24 minutes long. The workouts go by so quickly, it's crazy.

You can do the beginning part of Ashtanga sequence part A and B. It'll get the the blood moving and stretch the legs and back
