Re: Off Topic 2016: Doe A Deer A Female Deer

I wouldn't say I'm a regular flier at all, but I've done my fair share of flights up and down California.

The reality is: I don't know how planes get up in the air and stay up there, I don't know how scary it is for pilots to land planes or how easy it is for them to be corrupted, and I don't know what kinds of safety measures are in play for planes with electrical problems, fuel issues, or heavy storms...

... but then I just remind myself of all of the nuts on the road every day and what one small thing could do on there to mess me up equally as likely (probably more so), and I trust the means of travel so very much that it is disconcerning to me. As suggested above, I normally listen to music and sleep (before I used to play The Show on the flight, but no more Vita versions to carry franchises over with).

My mom is petrified of flying, but just got on a plane last night. She drank prior to it so much that she was probably threatening to pull a Kristen Wiig from Bridesmaids. But hey, that's what it takes for her. We all have our own coping mechanisms.

I wish you safe travels, and will see you on the other side!

EDIT: That's not like a death farewell, I mean "other side" more like Miami Airport.

        Haha that was the point.

Well the point wasn't to make him freak out, but to say that what will happen will happen, and I literally bet my life on the fact that things will work out for the better. Those who have trouble with it still find their ways around it when flying is the only choice they have. We can't sugar coat these things. I can tell him things will be alright and throw out all of the statistics that show how safe it is, but where's the fun in that?

If it makes him feel any better, I'm probably going to face my demise from my peanut allergy lol. Kiss of death, perhaps?

          Blzer vs PVarck

          Who survives the flight?

If PVarck doesn't make it, Blzer dies too.

What a horrible bet, why did I think this would help anything?

LOL! I mean every time I board a plane, I'm literally taking a gamble with my life. No different than any other gamble I take doing something like driving to the airport that day, though. So do I think of this like an actual gamble? Of course not. I don't wish to "have a safe flight" any more than I wish to "drive home safely."

Life is going to get us all somehow, hopefully by old age if we're lucky... but there are many things either out of our control or by general happenstance that we can't sit around and worry about it. That's not anything like a "YOLO" stance at all, either; that's just letting something that is as close as a sure thing as possible be something of a friendly relationship with our lives if at all possible.

I have never flown in a plane before in my life; never gone out of the eastern time zone, for that matter.

                I live a simple life.

I don't think I know a person who knows a person who has died on a plane. Can anyone here? It's likely you know someone who has died in a car crash.

The person piloting your plane is well trained and there's always a backup pilot with them. Enjoy the flight and even enjoy destination.

I can't even imagine a life without traveling. Just being a in different culture, trying different foods and seeing the coolest stuff. Next year, i'm hoping to hit up Thailand and Vietnam for a week or two.

                          This.

The most stressful thing about flying to me is actually getting to the plane on time. I'm always nervous about missing my flight between driving to the airport, checking luggage, going through all of the lines and stuff. Once I'm sitting in my seat I'm usually feel relieved.

Then once you do sit down you never know who you're going to be beside and sometimes it can be pretty bad. I've had two horrible experiences with our flights (that we purchased months in advance) getting canceled and getting put another flight instead, so my wife and I are seats split up. One this older curmudgeony couple purchased the aisle and window seat and my wife was stuck between them. Neither wanted to change seats. I knew their game. They were banking on the person between them switching seats and having the row to themselves... because who wants to sit between an old couple for 11-12 hours? I was on the aisle across from them and thankfully we did end up being able to sit across an aisle from each other in a different row.

Another time my wife and I were just separated my an aisle, however I got stuck beside a women, her toddler and her baby that was only a few months old. Her husband was separated from them in a different part of the plane. They obviously wanted me to switch with him, but my wife and I were on our honeymoon so we wanted to sit beside each other. Luckily people were nice enough to change so she was able to sit with her husband and I was able to sit with my wife. If it weren't for those people moving around I'm sure that would have been the worst flight of my life because the lady was totally pissed at me for not switching and being a total B. It was a pretty bad/awkward few minutes where we didn't think someone would switch, but thankfully it worked out.

People are so ridiculous. She has to sit next her husband but you get the third degree for sitting next to your new wife. Okay, that makes sense...

I had taken a weekend trip for business and got stuck in the worst seats being a single traveller, but my final flight home (total 4 planes with layovers from start to beginning of trip) I got a 2 person, aisle seat next to a regular sized person.

Well, a row or two up was the emergency exit seat. Some foreign lady was in the row and couldn't acknowledge she accepted the responsibility of that seat so she had to be moved. They asked like the 5-6 closest people and I could see the stewardess beginning to melt down knowing she was gonna have to force someone to switch (if they even can do that?). I just bit the bullet and did the right thing no matter how much I was thankful for the seat I got.

So this petite foreign lady got my cushy seat and I (not a big dude at all but I appreciate having at least some space) got stuck between this big *** dude on my left and a decent sized person on my right. Middle seats every single flight that trip. Uncanny! And I must invite people to throw their elbows and bodies up over their boundaries because I always end up with my arms tucked inwards while they stretch out. Cool guys.

I really gotta work on establishing my position and holding it. LOL

I would have eventually made the switch... I mean, I certainly don't want to get stuck beside two kids and a pissed off mother for 12 hours. I just wanted to see if any else would volunteer to switch before I volunteered myself. Luckily it worked out.
