Re: Off Topic Episode 2016: The Posts Awaken

Yea Mike we only get one run at this short moment in time, so we need to cherish and enjoy it. Far too often we get in a rhythm of everyday life going through the hustle of it all to stop and really take in what is going on with our lives each day. Hunting and fishing is my "ME" time, it's when I slow everything wayyyy down and just enjoy all "this" around us. So in short......I agree completely lol.

I surely appreciate the thoughts and support! I'm a firm believer in not getting knocked down and staying down (I know you feel me here Mike), so for me.......I'm going to bite down on the mouthpiece.....stand up and run another play. Life is not easy and struggles will come, learning to meet those hurdles head on is key, so when situations arise like this you don't fold under the weight.

Now with all that said, much love guys!

Some good news in what's been a constant dark cloud around here lately.

I was just at walmart and I was looking at video games and all of a sudden I heard someone scream "Help me, my baby's not breathing." I ran over towards the voice as if I thought I could do something, instinct I guess. But as luck would have it a Sheriff's deputy was in the store arresting someone for shop lifting and I saw him come running. The baby was definitely not breathing and the deputy started CPR. After about what seemed like hours (prob a min or two) the baby started crying. He freakin saved its life!!! It was an amazing and emotional thing to see. The parents were crying and hugging the deputy. I shed a tear of joy in what was just seconds before pure terror.

The deputy bent over to breathe and covered his face with his hands and I could tell he was shaking. Freakin hero man.

That's awesome to hear. Doing CPR during arrests gets the adrenaline flowing. Completely normal for the sheriff to have that reaction.

As strained and distant as our relationship was for most of my life, a heart-breaking realization occurred to me as I went through my father's possessions in his bedroom tonight.

There was shockingly little in the way of truly "personal" items. He developed an interest in motorcycles in his last few years of life, so there's a bit of that...but beyond that, there is a fleetingly small amount of things here that could actually tell you anything about the person who used to occupy this space. Just contrasting it to myself, for example....if I were to be hit by lightning and die tomorrow, you could go into my bedroom and learn quite a bit about me just by looking on the items I leave behind...there simply isn't much of anything like that here.

Nobody should live a life like this. So thoroughly empty and without joy, with the gaping void filled by an endless amount of physical and emotional pain. This was no way for a human being to exist. The vast majority of things in this room tell you basically nothing about the person who used to live here.

Well, I am flying to Tallahassee, FL for a job interview today (the interview is tomorrow morning). I'm flying back tomorrow evening. I am excited, but also quite nervous as it is one of those all-day interviews (9:30 AM - 3 PM... with lunch which might as well be an interview, too), which I haven't done before. The phone interview went really well last week, at least. The company paid for the plane tickets and will reimburse me for my meals and any other expenses while I am on the trip, so I'd have to think I have a decent shot, but we'll see.

EDIT: Sorry to hear about the losses in your guys' families. Losing family members is tough. I lost my great aunt a couple weeks ago, though we weren't all that close and she lived in Homestead, FL quite far away (I hadn't seen her since 2008, and before that, the late 1990s). I lost my grandfathers back-to-back in 2007 and 2008 while I was in high school, and that was hard. I can't imagine losing a father or a sister (well, I am an only-child, but still). Stay strong!

I saw a discussion a few pages back about ages and when we joined here. I was 14 (almost 15) when I created this account and now I am 23 (24 in July). Time flies. Wow. Looking back, my early posts were pretty sketchy. It's funny how you don't really notice yourself maturing, but it definitely happens over time.

Sorry to hear about your loss, but this sounds so much like my parents. If you go through my office, you'll find all my engineering and math textbooks, all my NASCAR stuff. My blurays tell you the movies I like. I have a huge pile of daily racing forms for horsebetting. Like you, it wouldn't take long to get an idea of some of my interests. But my parents just seem like they have ordinary everyday household stuff. And a lot of it is from my grandparents when they died. Aside from the cars, my parents just don't really have or do anything. He only went to sporting events because I wanted to so he doesn't have much in the way of memorabilia. The only movies my parents have are the ones I've bought them for Christmas. Actually, the only things I could see standing out are what I've gotten them for Christmas over the years.

I don't like accruing stuff, it bothers me and my OCD, but it'd still be weird for me to think about not having anything that I could identify with that I like to do.

Yeah I saw that. I've been on a 25 before. I couldn't imagine that rolling over. Sounds like the cox'n probably shouldn't have gone into that weather. That boat wasn't built for that kind of weather.

Yeah...but they were going after that boat in distress.
                      Sounded pretty hairy.
We're not supposed to go into a lot of situations....but you know...you hear someone is trapped and you kind of just say "**** it".

So just for fun, I decided to check which songs/albums came out in 2006 to see what has been out for 10 years now. Wow, that was actually a pretty good/interesting year.

Found a list from Billboard, top 100 songs at the end of the year. http://www.bobborst.com/popculture/t...ear/?year=2006

                          Some of my favorites include:

Plus one of my favorite albums of all time, Billy Talent II, came out that year.

Some of those songs seem like they were out way earlier than 2006 for whatever reason.
