Yeah, Denver's goalie was playing out of his mind, plus their defense was overachieving. Notre Dame's defense was uncharacteristically flat in the first half, then they came out in the second and played lights out and started winning ground balls, and they got some nice transition goals off them. Sparked the run.

Applied for a new job a week and a half ago...same company, different department. I've talked to a few people that keep insisting I e-mail the hiring supervisor and express interest in the job, but to me applying itself shows I express interest, and e-mailing them just makes me come across as annoying and entitled as if I expect to get hired. Am I overthinking it?

I feel you on that, but screw it. If that's the reason someone else gets it over you, you're gonna kick yourself for not firing off an email.

It just makes you seem extra interested. Annoying would be emailing them every day.

                  Make your move!

The "Hail Mary" emails I write have a surprising success rate. I'm usually verbally saying, "Why not?!" as I hit the send button.

                    Agree in full here.

                      Not necessarily true.

I've been burned before by hiring people who have shown too much interest. It's now become a big red flag to me when hiring. Not to say this is the case with JJ but often times when hiring internally I've come to find that when someone is trying leave their current position to another internal position it's often because their standing isn't that great where they are now.

Again, I'm not saying that's relevant with JJ and his situation nor do I know what field he works in but it can be a huge red flag to me when someone shows too much interest into moving on.

I will say though, if there is no interview scheduled, doing whatever you can to get an interview is worth it. That's where I make my decisions.

JJ, are the interviews set up through HR (or recruiting) or are they actually set up through the hiring manager? That makes a big difference. If they are set up through HR sending emails to the manager can be nothing but an annoyance to be honest.

I'm curious...what would you qualify as too much interest? I'm looking for a new/different company to work for so I'd love to know your thoughts as to red flags or conversely, what you appreciate.

Quickly, on the point regarding follow-up emails...I know a few people that have sent follow-up emails after interviews (quick, 2 sentence thank-you note) and they ended up getting the job; granted, it's likely a placebo effect but nonetheless an interesting parallel.

Keep in mind that I was only responding to the situation at hand which is hiring from internally so it isn't necessarily the same situation as you are in. I've never dealt with hiring externally.

I never find too much interest as a red flag but I've learned that it doesn't equal someone being qualified for the job.

Also though, I don't want to be discouraging even though you are looking to be hired externally, I've just learned to base my decision based on things other than interest from the candidate's interest.

Quickly, on the point regarding follow-up emails...I know a few people that have sent follow-up emails after interviews (quick, 2 sentence thank-you note) and they ended up getting the job; granted, it's likely a placebo effect but nonetheless an interesting parallel.
Follow up emails aren't that big of a deal, they get deleted pretty quickly but it's not something that has ever swayed me one way or the other.

Hiring from within, I know most about employees going into the interview if they are someone I will hire or not. Most of the time it is their job to lose and not the other way around so a follow up email doesn't change anything.

I know none of that helps you and it's probably contradictory to other's here who hire externally so don't take anything I've said to heart for the situation your in.

The interviews are set up/scheduled by the supervisor. Two of my current supervisors are giving me references as well.

Not to dissect this too far, but who are the people who have recommended the follow up email? Are they people from within the company who know the secret?
