Without going into too much detail. That's what I did. My best friend was dating this girl. I convinced her to date me and she broke up with him and a few months later I dumped her for her best friend.

I'm not that far removed from those days, so I know the feeling can be strong and it ain't easy. Even as I was going through the highs and lows of the "talking" phase (I believe adults call it courting, lol), I constantly reminded myself to enjoy the ride. I hadn't had these strong feelings before, so it was all new to me and it was exciting and scary and crazy. But I wanted to savor it and hope for the best. Obviously you're in a different situation but that advice stands.

I know you're being helpful and all (you have a knack for that, not sure if it's been mentioned), but food for thought: our young guy OP already looks at you as "adult" and I consider "courting" as a grandfather term, and I'm getting close to being in that demographic lol

damnit, I had somewhere I was gonna go with this but it totally escaped me when I started typing this up... maybe I'm closer to grandpa age than I first thought

I appreciate everything you guys said. I thought about it a bit and I realized that it wouldn't be the worst thing if I stepped back a bit. I haven't tried to date anyone else. Senior year's supposed to be fun. Im not well liked, but apparently I have likable qualities, so if I just stop focusing on her, maybe I can get somewhere. I have some charisma with the ladies. After all, my closest female friend is her best friend (crazy cycle of relationships, I know). All I know is that I've been trying to deal with being obsessed with this girl for a long time, and haven't really tried with anyone else. Maybe I should step back, smell the flowers, and enjoy my last year before things get real.

Go, have fun and live your life. Wish I could explain more, but it's just one of those things you'll understand after you live some more. Don't make any decisions about your life based on someone else. Especially now.

I'm almost 30 and I have one brother that's 18 and another that's either 15 or 16. I know the deaf ears this falls upon. Stop worrying about it and just have fun.

The Westboro Baptist Church is protesting at a coast guard air station on Sunday. They even changed our service song to different words. They even rhyme with the song. That's some strong hate.

Dealt with them on a few occasions back when I was doing funerals at Arlington National.

They didn't do anything as grand as the song, it was more of just "Thank God for Dead Soldiers" signs and the like.

First girl who was "the one": a lesbian

Second girl who was "the one": Heroin addict

3rd Girl: Married a stock broker- Turns out she was out of my league

4th girl: Got a STD from her on the 3rd date

5th Girl: turned down my advances, started dating someone who is actually very similar to myself: Same hobbies, similar looks, similar job. She still has a soft spot in my heart but I can live with friendship and occasionally looking down her shirt.

6th girl: Fiancé.

Fact is, no 18 year old knows what they want. Dating at that age is good practice for romance but its nothing more than practice. Get in decent shape, learn to talk to girls, and sharpen your sword for collage.
