I just played two new games last weekend that were a lot of fun. Dead of Winter from Plaidhat games and Blood Rage. Both of them were a huge amount of fun. I am actually looking to buy Dead of Winter right now online.

I'll have to look into those. Dead of Winter sounds familiar, but I don't think I've heard of Blood Rage before. I bought Tokaido and Forbidden Island last week to take on vacation with us this weekend.

We played a round of Tokaido. A fairly straight forward game that is pretty easy to understand and explain. I could see how playing it with more than two or three players would be a lot more fun, but I still enjoyed playing with just the two of us.

Family for the most part. I think I could convince my side of the family to try different games, but Ashleigh's side is more picky. I think I could get them into Forbidden Island, but Tokaido might be a hard sell for them. Roll For It and Sushi Go is more up their alley.

I know I couldn't get either side to play Settlers of Catan, though. MAYBE Smallword.

I would love to find/start of group to play board games regularly. I think there are some online communities who play board games online.

We have friends that will bring some over if they happen to be not working and not busy and we'll play some. Family too, at times, but I pretty much never see my family so that doesn't count.

That being said, for a lot of these games, if people like video games they should like board games. There are plenty of worthy board games out there (not just Risk/Monopoly/etc. - not that those are bad, but that's what people associate board games with.)

Off Topic 2016: Guzzling

There are definitely games shops that run board games nights all over. Of course, most of them do Magic or Warhammer 4K games, but that'd be your best bet to get a group to play Settlers of Catan or similar.

Check out www.Games-workshop.com and go to store finder. They supply a lot of these shops with miniatures for these games. They have an official retail presence, but also supply to independent retailers -- these are the board game clubs. I was surprised to see so many local places to play board games.

Probably double the shelf-life rule for it, but what do ya think? Yay or nay?
