Somewhat astronomy related.
Officials have now confirmed that after four and a half years in orbit, Tiangong-1 (meaning Heavenly Palace) is expected to plummet to Earth in late 2017.“You really can’t steer these things,” he said. “Even a couple of days before it re-enters we probably won’t know better than six or seven hours, plus or minus, when it’s going to come down. Not knowing when it’s going to come down translates as not knowing where it’s going to come down.”
“There will be lumps of about 100kg or so, still enough to give you a nasty wallop if it hit you,” he added.Comment

NASA to Hold Media Call on Evidence of Surprising Activity on Europa
NASA will host a teleconference at 2 p.m. EDT Monday, Sept. 26, to present new findings from images captured by the agency’s Hubble Space Telescope of Jupiter’s icy moon, Europa.
Astronomers will present results from a unique Europa observing campaign that resulted in surprising evidence of activity that may be related to the presence of a subsurface ocean on Europa.Steelers : IX, X, XIII, XIV, XL, XLIII

Re: The Astronomy and Physics thread. And things of the like.
A lot of people are speculating that it may be an announcement of life on Europa. If that's the case than Monday Sept. 26th 2016 is going to be a date to remember for all time. Can you imagine how much of a game changer it will be to know that there may be life in our solar system?!
I'm not going to hold my breath but i'm really hoping that's the case.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Think their subsequent tweets about it have even included "#notaliens" lol
I agree with speculation that Hubble probably spotted water plumes or something similar/related, they haven't been observed since 2012 I think.

Re: The Astronomy and Physics thread. And things of the like.
It's probably not aliens as the general public thinks of aliens, but I could definitely see it being some type of microscopic creature that proves life can exist elsewhere.
What exactly we can do with that revelation, I don't know. That's one hell of a road trip from home.NHL - Philadelphia Flyers
NFL - Buffalo Bills
MLB - Cincinnati Reds

Well yeah, I doubt anyone with a rational mind thinks there's actual aliens as we popularly think of them but I wouldn't be surprised to hear of microbial life forms.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

I honestly don't know.Comment

Re: The Astronomy and Physics thread. And things of the like.
No it would not. We would most likely have to get an actual sample of ice or water from Europa to find out.Comment
