Today's fun fact: The Perseids meteor shower peaks tonight at 9PM EDT in the Northeastern sky.

I actually saw one last night.

Tried to see it for about 2 hrs the other night. Mostly I just have a million mosquito bites to show for it, but I think I saw a few. They're just gone so fast you always wonder "did I just see that?". But no real awesome fireworks in the time I looked.

I saw maybe 20 or 30. I was trying to get pictures.

In other news about 2 weeks ago my Dad said someone told him Mars was going to be the size of the moon. Is that a neverending Facebook hoax?

Once I told him about the size and distance of mars he realized how silly it was. (Seeing as Mars is roughly twice the size of the moon)

Yeah, the Mars thing is definitely a Facebook hoax. It's been going around for a couple years now.

The funny thing is like a year ago my mom calls me and tells me Mars is gonna be the size of the moon whenever it was supposed to be. And I'm like mom, stop believing everything you see on Facebook. She basically believes everything on there. UGH.

But anyway, if those signals were sent by aliens they are probably long gone by now.

Sometimes I get a little frustrated with the fact we haven't heard or found anything regarding to extraterrestrial life. But we've only been looking for 50 years. Not a very long time. We only discovered the first exoplanet in 1997. Now we are finding dozens almost every month.

And we are finding complex organics in our own solar system. I think it's only a matter of time. It has to be.

It's too bad the James Webb telescope got delayed. I think it's going up in 2021 now. It will be able to image exoplanets directly and see the composition of their atmospheres.

We also recently learned that water world planets could harbor life when we previously thought it wouldn't be possible.

Sorry for the long winded post. Late night/early morning thoughts pouring out.

I still choose to forgo the Kolinahr so I can apply to Starfleet.

Among the TV series Star Trek's many charms are its rich universe of characters and planets. Now, the Dharma Planet Survey, in a new study led by University of Florida (UF) astronomer Jian Ge and team including Tennessee State University (TSU) astronomers Matthew Muterspaugh and Gregory Henry, has shown that science fiction may be a little less so; the Dharma project has discovered what may be Star Trek's famed planet Vulcan.

They must be in some sort of enclosure and in soil brought from Earth as the lunar surface is completely inhospitable to life with no atmosphere and constant exposure to hard ionizing radiation.

It seems like this was already done, but I guess only in movies. Someone’s been watching Matt Damon!

China is really moving the needle lately. I’m very interested to hear more about their findings...

And it's dead, couldn't survive the lunar night.

The cotton plants that sprouted on the moon's far side aboard China's Chang'e 4 lander are dead, done in by the bitter cold of the lengthy lunar night.

If life only goal is to survive, I think what we are seeing now with AI and computers/digitizing is just another step in evolution.

Organics are not made for space or traveling long distances. Digital storage, whoever, is perfect for it. Store the information in a hard drive of sorts and send it out to seed among the stars!

Maybe the end game of life is to digitize itself so it can never die....
