    Christmas 2017

Let me be the first to wish you all a Merry Christmas.

It’s become a bit of a tradition for me to start up this yearly thread. I know there will be a few who will say, “Mike...it’s not even Thanksgiving yet. It’s too early for Christmas.” Please know, I hear you and appreciate your feelings. With that said, us Canadians (all 4 for us) celebrated Thanksgiving weeks ago, but I hope that you come back after your Thanksgiving and contribute to this Christmas thread.

I’m very excited, maybe even more than normal, because my daighter is 21 months old and is starting to get a handle on Christmas. She points at all the Santas in the house and yells excitedly, “Santa, Ho Ho Ho” and we decorated her felt Christmas tree everyday. She loved decorating the other Christmas trees and listens to Jingle Bells on repeat. She’s too young to understand the true meaning of Christmas, but I feel my wife and I are starting to develop her love for the season. It’s only going to get more exciting with every Christmas to come.

With most of the trees giving up their leaves, malls decorations up, Christmas music on the radio, and Hallmark Christmas movies in full swing, I feel like the Christmas season has arrived.

Where are you in the “Season”? We have our trees up, outdoor lights up and entire house decorated. My wife has started Christmas crafts with Mary (my daughter), Christmas music is constantly on our radio and I have finished most of my Christmas shopping. We are also hosting Christmas this year, and those preparations have already begun.

I pray that you all have a great Christmas season and I look forward to enjoying it with all of you.

    43 Days until Christmas

Dang, I just got around to taking down the lights from last year.

You saying I need to put them back up soon?

        Re: Christmas 2017

Had a feeling this thread would be made sometime this weekend.

Parade is next weekend. Not that it makes a difference, but then that can be the official start of holiday season here. Though I went shopping on Halloween and stores were basically cleared out of Halloween stuff and moving on to Christmas already lol. Didn't even want to wait for Halloween to be over before removing their Halloween stuff.

Christmas on a Monday this year is nice. Ultimate long weekend. "Mail it in Friday" before getting weekend to do Christmas stuff, and then Monday and Tuesday are holidays too. Made plans last year for Christmas this year, but I'm sure most people forgot about it already. I don't even remember what plans exactly I made other than knowing I made some plan.

It seems the Christmas season kicks off earlier and earlier every year. I have a list of things to buy but luckily it's not a long one. The only drawback of Christmas being on Monday is that my father will have to do a couple hours of dialysis

              1. lol ya it was fast. Not my ideal situation(pay/travel are only negatives of it. Everything else about it like people/work/environment is great, ironically the exact opposite situation of my last job), but it's temporary and will pay off long term.

              2. Boxing Day. Not for people in USA, but in Canada we get it off.

                Re: Christmas 2017

Boxing Day originated in Britain. There are a couple theories as to how it originated and what it represents.

                (from History.com)

One idea is that December 26 was the day centuries ago when lords of the manor and aristocrats typically distributed “Christmas boxes” often filled with small gifts, money and leftovers from Christmas dinner to their household servants and employees, who were required to work on December 25, in recognition of good service throughout the year. These boxes were, in essence, holiday bonuses. Another popular theory is that the Boxing Day moniker arose from the alms boxes that were placed in churches during the Advent season for the collection of monetary donations from parishioners. Clergy members distributed the contents of the boxes to the poor on December 26, which is also the feast of St. Stephen, the first Christian martyr and a figure known for acts of charity. (Ireland celebrates December 26 as St. Stephen’s Day.)
In modern times it's basically our equivalent to Black Friday. That's pretty significant in some ways for the retail business here in Canada as over the last decade Black Friday has become a big thing here so we essentially have TWO Black Friday type events. One which lasts a week with the Black Friday week sales and the traditional Boxing Day.

Literally just put this up. First tree ive done. First tree for me and my wife. Hopefully one day i become as good as my dad was at this.

It’s easier to do the right thing, than to explain why you didn’t.

Boxing Day in Canada = Sales on items and world junior hockey

And even nowadays, Boxing "Day" in Canada just allows stores to have those sales lasting weeks.

With online shopping though, really no need to literally almost kill yourself to save 60% on items.

@ratedmoney. Absolutely love it. Getting to “As good as your father” is a goal most of us strive for. For me, my Dad did the lights then watched us decorate. So, I’ve been trying to get the lights as good as him for years. They are good goals to strive for.

Yeah I forgot about the World Juniors. That's a huge event. It's going to be even more bigger since it's being played down the road here in Buffalo.

World Juniors in North America are always the best. As much as I like international hockey (and it's nice to see many countries like Russia,Sweden,Finland,Czech so into things as well), nothing beats it when the games are in NA.

Canada-USA where fans from both countries are present and loud at the games. Especially this year where it's Canada-USA the Friday before New Years, at the Bills stadium.

Didn't get a tree skirt yet. And yea was the same growing up. Dad did the light's and everything then we would hang the ornaments. He always got real trees. He was an artist, so I think that helped with his decorations. At this point all I've done is this tree, gonna get some more decorations for the house and the yard.

My Packers tree in my room stays up year round, the wife decorated the rest of the interior today with the exception of the big tree in the front room. Next weekend the tree and the exterior will be done.

Added SXM Holly to my radio presets the other day, been listening off and on already.

Just ordered the first of my son's gifts, which I am pretty excited about too...
