    Re: Christmas 2017

I hear you on the kids getting spoiled these days. My niece gets showered with a TON of gifts by our family. Her birthday was just last month and she got a ton of Peppa Pig related toys and clothing. I shudder to think how much money is going to go on getting her presents during the holiday season when she's 5 years old.

At times, it feels like that Fresh Price Christmas episode where everyone was getting Nicky expensive gifts like a mini car, gold rattle and stuff and Will got him a puppet lol.

Really does seem like Christmas is the time of year people try to win the "Fave (Aunt,Uncle,Cousin etc.)" award by buying their love. Kids won't remember all the little things you've done, but will remember that someone bought them a $500 gift for Christmas(and yes, I'm saying this one based on experience, which is the main reason for my "kids today are spoiled" rant)

I had great Christmas’s a kid. I was never spoiled, I would get Star Wars action figures, goalie equipment, etc. I was always thankful.

As an adult, my wife spoils me (I also spoil her)...and I love it. I enjoy shopping for her and our families. She always manages to get me awesome gifts and I work my butt off trying to figure out what to get her. So, I really get excited watching her open her gifts.

Now, for my 21 month old daughter. I have to do everything in my power to buy her everything in Toy’s R Us. She is getting a toy car set (we play cars for hours everyday). We got her a few other toys, but we are trying not to go over board. She’s too young to remember everything she gets, and I know my family will spoil her. It will only get harder for me to not spoil her the older she gets.
I am the lesson after the fall.

I've done this many times. Just get them something you know they want. Never had a gift hated or anything, but a decent amount where I thought something was really cool and the receiver was only mildly into it.

...the hell? I'm 32 and I don't think anyone's ever gotten me a $500 gift for any reason. I need to meet richer people.

I actually feel like the Christmas stuff held off a decent bit this year. I didn't see very many commercials until the last couple weeks. Music station just flipped over to Christmas songs a couple days ago. Only a few houses within the last week started with their lights. The most comical part it is when places like Costco have Christmas stuff and winter clothing up in October when, in LA, October is a traditionally (sometimes very) hot month.

I think it's generally appropriate around now. Maybe they've listened to the people whining about it. I remember a few years ago I saw Christmas ads like Week 1 or Week 2 of the football season. I think after Thanksgiving is the best but I won't complain about it starting up so soon.

Of course you spoil her, you are Santa after all

I have no idea what they want. I don't even think they really need stuff. It's kids after all. Even if they want something, they'll still get bored of it after awhile.

And that $500 gift was a bit ridiculous. It's great gift, but that's just spoiling people. Basically just someone wanting to flash their cash.

It's a Paw Patrol Christmas in my house this year. My 5 year old son and 2 year old daughter are obsessed with that show. Bought a ton of Paw Patrol toys and other related things. Some Peppa Pig stuff for my daughter too.

Wife and I are only exchanging one gift I believe. Not much I really need or want at the moment. All about the kids.

Yeah, I tell you, Adrianna (my niece) is the closest thing to a daughter I have and she spends A LOT of time here. I'm her uncle AND best friend all wrapped into one so I spoil her a lot despite my complaints LOL. She's a great little kid and I think she's very smart but that could just be me being so happy with her being in our family.

It isn't quite the "all the perks of having kids around with no responsibility" thing as my parents and I babysit her a lot but there is a lot of pleasure derived in having her around. The last few years before she was born I really hated this time of year but now I can't wait to see her face on Christmas Day.

Give them an autographed picture of you. I've been wanting to do that with one family member who will appreciate how dumb of an idea it is but I never get his name in our grab bag. (I'd get a legitimate gift too, obviously)

Had that last year, not hate but just bored with it. My sister came in with her kids and having them around made Christmas better. They're not coming in this year (going to her husband's side) so it's back to boring family for me.

I'm debating bringing Jackbox games out at the gatherings to liven things up, but people realizing they write/draw their own answers just means it turns into a million dick jokes in about two seconds.

It's not even Thanksgiving and I'm about 95% done with Christmas shopping.

I don't even know who I am anymore.

Just got our tree up on Sunday and will probably finish decorating over the long weekend.

Wife and I did something different this year and that is adopting a few kids that I work with instead of buying for each other. It's been an awesome experience so far. One family is going to get a PS4, games, controllers, etc. in addition to all of the clothes and toys they've put on their wishlist as well.

So my 10 year old daughter wants a hoverboard this year for Christmas.
I know nothing about them, any tips?
                            Brands? Good deals?
I know they are pretty expensive, its really the only thing I am going to get her and she is fine with that.
