I’ve been making it a point to be in the holiday spirit this year. We got our tree up last weekend so we’re in full on Christmas mode. All the plans are made, and we’re 3 weeks away.

    Now what?
    Develop new traditions?

My brother and I always get together to make holiday cookies and treats. We also always go out shopping and grab dinner with our dad on a "guy's shopping night."

Of course the usual stuff like watching movies and TV specials and holiday parties.

We don't have a family of our own yet, but I'm already coming up with different things to do once kids come into the picture. Reading Christmas books will definitely be one of them as well as some kind of advent calendar.

Does anyone want to share what they're getting their significant other this year? Usually, I have an idea about what I want to get my wife but this year I've hit a wall. Maybe some fresh ideas would help me.

I bought her/us a Nintendo Switch with games and accessories. Other than that she's getting some t-shirts, loungewear, some "no cut" gloves (more of a gag gift), Mario Uno, some books, and a board game. I still need to get some things from the local fair trade store that we saw a couple months ago.

Also to add to the worse Christmas songs list: given the current state of affairs in our nation, “Baby It’s Cold Outside.”

Past years I got my wife LV purses, sunglasses and stuff like that. This year she said she wanted a clothes steamer and mention she also wanted a high end coffee maker. I also got her clothes for yoga. That Lulu stuff all house wives wear.

I never recommend household items, unless they ask for it. Definitely no pots, pans, and definitely no irons.

Honestly, next to buying stuff for my mom, buying for the wife can be difficult. You need to listen to the hints they drop throughout the year (not that that is helping you now). It has helped me a lot.
I am the lesson after the fall.

Merry Christmas honey, I got you some pots and pans. Now go make me something to eat.

The father-in-law got the mother-in-law a "make your own cheese kit" last year.

Currently it is being threatened to be re-gifted. Suffice to say it went over like a lead balloon.

Anyone know of any nice Christmas-y getaway village type towns within about a couple hours of NYC in any direction? Thinking of going somewhere for the weekend weather permitting.

I’m in this boat too. My plan of attack is to ask her best friend for suggestions. We put together a pretty amazing gift box for her for her birthday a month ago so I’m going to the well again.

Christmas-y villages around NYC? Hmm. I know Pigeon Forge, TN has a Christmas themed hotel, but that's about it and I know that's a lot further than a couple hours from NYC. But there's a lot of stuff to do there and you could day trip to the Biltmore/Asheville, NC.

Another S.O. gift idea for you guys: a picture calendar. I do this every year for my mom and Ashleigh and it's always a hit. Plus, it's cool going through all the pictures from the past year or whenever. It hits all the "boxes": thoughtful, creative, and takes a bit of time depending how many pictures you go through and how thorough you are with the designs. I always use Shutterfly. I have two $10 off coupons that expire December 16th that I won't be using so just PM if you guys want one.

A few years ago one of my buddies told me he got his wife a treadmill for Christmas. lol
I told him to take it back and get her something else, he didn't and ended up on the dog house for weeks.
Nothing says honey your fat like giving them a treadmill!
