    Re: Christmas 2017

A week away. It feels both so close, but so far away.

We'll be spending Eve with my parents and exchanging gifts there. This will be the first year we will actually be home Christmas morning so that'll be nice. Then we head to the in-laws for a couple hours before Ashleigh has to work.

We are hosting this year, so we will be home as well this year. I’m looking forward to waking up in my own bed and not having to travel Christmas Day. I can’t believe we are a week away. It’s why I start celebrating so early, because it goes by so quickly...ESPECIALLY THE OLDER I GET.

I’m looking forward to a quiet morning with my wife and daughter. My family should be at our place by 2pm. So we will open presents, have breakfast, play with my daughter and her new toys and tidy up before everyone shows up. It’s going to be a lot of fun and I’m really looking forward to it.

My wife does the 12 Days of Christmas for me every year, so I get small gifts everyday leading up to Christmas. I really enjoy it. It always ends with a calendar of personal pictures for the year to come. I’m truly a lucky man.

I hope you all are enjoying the season and that the week to come is full of fun and love.
I am the lesson after the fall.

Got 90% of my shopping done today. Found some great pre-Christmas deals.

Much bigger fan of day after Christmas shopping--all Christmus stuff like 50% off.

Ya, it's coming so fast this year. Right now for me it feels like early December. So much that I never changed my calendar from November to December until 2 days ago lol.

Haven't wrapped a single gift yet....

              Re: Christmas 2017

I got 95% of my shopping done by cyber Monday but nothing is wrapped. My gf said she'll handle that for me which is good because I'm horrible at it.

I still have a couple things to buy including something for the gf. It's tough because we've casually known each other for about 8 or 9 years but never became close until about 6 months ago and just recently (like a week ago) became a couple. I have no idea what an appropriate gift (re: dollar amount) is under those unique set of circumstances is. I'm thinking under $200 is appropriate. Any thoughts?

As for Christmas day, I'm still debating going to the Steelers game here in Houston. After yesterday's loss, I'm a little less enthusiastic but maybe I'll change my mind over the next few days. Otherwise, it will probably just be a quiet day at home with the gf.

The 26th is when most everything will go down for me. I'll get my daughter at noon and we'll all go to my sister's house for lunch and for some gift exchanging. I might take my daughter's gifts there for her to open and I might make her wait until we get home. I'm not sure. [emoji16]

                Re: Christmas 2017

Last batch of gifts arriving this week from Amazon. I am not looking forward to wrapping!

I think we got our son 15 things, though a lot of those are little things like a kaleidoscope, train whistle, and books. I can’t wait to break open the knee hockey set we got though. It’s been killing me looking at it for the last month! Kid is gonna have more things then he knows what to do with after family spoils him too.

Prime membership was both a great investment and a terrible influence to spend money that I don’t make enough of in the first place. But I’ll make an exception for Christmas.

Tell her you want to take your relationship to the next level and buy her pots and pans and a cookbook.

I was just having this conversation the other day...people actually watch these movies? I mean, they must, because Hallmark keeps making them. A lot of them. I mean, it seems like they churn these things out like a factory; a never-ending, Candace Cameron-starring factory.

You can almost do Mad-Libs with the plots. A single woman [professional occupation] breaks up with her significant other, then moves back to [small town] where she runs into an old [high school/college/other] friend and despite their initial protestations, sparks fly!

I never did until this year and even then it's more on in the background than actually setting out to watch. I do see a decent amount of them though. I said the same thing to my brother in a text about the plots. My version was:
                                Happy people: Hey, it's Christmas!
                                Female star: ...meh.
Happy people: You need to go to (small town with holiday traditions) for (unrelated reason).
                                Female star: Alright, I guess...

**go to town, meet random man (75% chance of being a widower), fall in love**

                                Female star: Hey, it's Christmas!

                                ::credits::

I actually watched one on the Hallmark drama channel the other day because I flipped through and the scene it landed on had the FBI at the airport looking for the female lead because she was on the no fly list. That was enough of a change to get me to watch more, haha.

Spoiler: It ended the same way as all these movies do.
