re: Off-Topic
But back on topic of good news..
I think it could capture a sizable market. Old people who want to watch happy things on TV, and just regular people who want to see good in the world.
Not just some random fluff pieces about saving a cat in a tree, or helping an old person cross the street (unless there's someone who spends their entire days doing nothing but this stuff), but just news reporting on good Samaritans, people donating to a good cause, seeing how a community comes together during times in need, and all sorts of things like that.
I'm sure there'll be a noticeable market out there who'd watch things like that over convenience story robbery #97 of the week, or car crash #19 of the day or anything much bigger than that. Could even see advertisers jumping on board with that too. Who wouldn't want to run their commercials to make their companies not seem like some big/evil corporation, than advertising the charitable side of themselves on a "good news channel".Comment

re: Off-Topic
Everyone likes good news. That's not my point.
There's nothing compelling about good news stories to keep you watching for long periods of time. What kind of developing, feel good stories are going to grip people into watching for hours on end as something unfolds live? Good news doesn't spark conversations or act as a catalyst for a wide range of emotions and reactions.
Sure. Everybody likes good news, but it doesn't make money.

Today on the "All Good News Network"
Man donates to charity. Audience response: "I hate that charity, they represent something I go against."

re: Off-Topic
It doesn't have to be some major news station, but if you look at the types of things on tv, as much as you think "who watches this stuff?", you know it's on tv because there is an audience for it. Running it as some small cable network channel, or even just an online streaming channel, could build up a good audience.
And it's not just local news or national news, it'd be things from around the globe.Comment

re: Off-Topic
I really think people under estimate the number of people who actually like to read/hear about good news stories. Stories that show that human beings can still be compassionate, kind, loving, and gentle to their fellow man.
Maybe good news doesn't spark the conversations/debates and range of emotions/reactions that bad news does, and maybe that would be ok.I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

re: Off-Topic
That's the point. SEGMENT. So you'd hear something like:
"Police are investigating after a store was robbed"
"A 4 car pileup happened early this morning"
"Police are looking for anyone with information on a series of burglaries"
"When we return, we discuss a recent study from __ university which found that owning a dog can be good for your health".
And that's it (exaggerated, but you get my point).Comment

re: Off-Topic
Or one could look at it as the fact that news stations want to leave the viewer with a positive story so that they don't end broadcast with the viewer thinking the world is full of nothing but hate, violence, and despair.I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.
