re: Off-Topic
So I have an interview coming up next week. The office I'm currently working at is in the middle of tax season and none of the office knows I've been looking for other opportunities. Anyway, the potential new job is located about 35-45 minutes away.
Monday's interview should be fine as they're willing to meet me after business hours. If all goes well they also want to bring me into the office on Wednesday between 10AM-5PM to meet the Executive Director. With it being so busy around here I'm not sure how to finingle it especially since it is a legitimate distance away from my current office.
Any words of advice or suggestions? I don't want to tell my boss flat out simply because I have no idea how he would react (remember this is the same guy who bitched us out over plastic forks). I'm hoping they'll be able to meet me after 4PM on Wednesday, but even then I would need some kind of game plan to leave the office. Asking for time off without making up some doctor or dentist appointment would raise suspicions, too.

You could just call in sick and take the entire day off, but then you have to worry about appearing sickly the next day. You could go with something like "I have an emergency at home" and say that your fiancee called and said your dog got out and you have to go look... or say your hot water heater burst, then take a picture of someone else's (off of the internet) of their hot water heater after it busted and send it to him in a text. He will never know the difference, well unless he's been to your home.So I have an interview coming up next week. re: Off-Topic
Yeah I’m not sure there’s anything you can do besides lie and hope for the best. Just say you have something to take care of.. like a personal thing and you need the day off or part of it. Whatever you say just don’t give a lot of details and go into a ridiculous story or it won’t sound legit.
Either that or call in sick in the morning and say you think you came down with food poisoning. “I’ve been stuck in the bathroom all morning.” Lol.. something like that. That might be embarrassing but no one is gonna question that and the good thing about that excuse is food poisoning goes away in a day or two so you don’t have to go into work the next day trying to act like you’re still a little sick.

You can't take a day off without a note? Good grief, no wonder you're looking. I wouldn't lie about it, just say you have personal matters you had to resolve. Personally...I wouldn't tell your boss if he's pretty difficult to deal with as he could use that against you if you aren't offered/don't accept the job. I went thru that a couple of years ago - I went thru the interview process, chose not to accept the job and didn't tell my boss about any of it, just took the day off and said it was a personal matter...the next year, when my department went thru some downsizing, I got thru it and didn't worry any that my boss would think I could get on somewhere else quickly and get cut.So I have an interview coming up next week. It's hard though...especially when I got my neighbor playing their franchise across the street...maybe I will occupy myself with Glamore Magazine.Comment

I’m not going to act like I haven’t lied to get a day off, lol.
either just tell them you need a personal day to deal with some stuff away from work or just come up with a good lie, which isn’t hard to do. As long as you don’t do it often, I think you should be good unless he’s going to ask for some sort of verification.

re: Off-Topic
I probably should have qualified my statement a bit.
It wasn't a moral stance, I've lied in my life, not going to lie about that. (Didn't realize the pun until I proofread)
But when it comes to work, as a bonded employee I could literally be fired for lying about anything (ethics) so it's not something I mess around with.
I've seen people fired for the dumbest things when if they would have just told the truth they would have been given a warning but still had a job.
So yea, not opposed morally to lying (to get out of work), just conditioned not to lol.Last edited by kehlis; 03-16-2018, 06:10 PM.Comment

Only online games I've played have been mmo's, and yeah there is a small bit of anxiety with it. Stuff like hoping you "fit in" with the guild you just joined is probably common. But for me the biggest cause of anxiety comes from random teams for things like raids and clearing dungeons. Instead of enjoying myself I am constantly telling myself not to screw up and have everyone mad at me. But for routine in game communication? Not really.
You don't get paid time off or you already used them all? Or you missed the advanced notice window? So I have an interview coming up next week. I mean how are they going to find out? I think anyone can be fired for lying about the reason they took off but at the end of the day I doubt many bosses are going to go snooping around trying to find the real reason you didn’t come to work. Unless of course you’re a ****ty employee but even then it’d be hard to find out. Maybe I’ve just gotten lucky with the bosses I’ve had though.
